Modifying software end stops in 44 Steering Assist MQB mk 7.5 golf

Hi all, I own a Golf R that came with 19" wheels from the factory. Due to those wheels, it seems VW modifies the software slightly so the steering wheel doesn't turn quite as far.

On the other hand, my partners GTI has 18" wheels, and has no modifications made to the software of the steering assist. That little bit makes all the difference in maneuverability, and now that I have my R on 18" wheels too, I'd like to modify these software end stops to GTI levels. How do I know these are software controlled? There was adaptation channel that (IDE05162-Software end stop) that when toggled to "Not Active" allowed me to turn my steering wheel as far as the GTI, maybe even further? Unfortunately, I saw no adaptation channels for the actual adjustment of where the end stops are, even though they seem to be stored in mm values, as per Adv. Measuring.

I don’t believe that you can change the steering with adaptation. Only way to change the characteristics is to flash a new steering map to the rack. And that you cannot do with VCDS.

Do try to figure this out on your own - it's rather bad form asking for support for a competing product. All I can tell the parameters are selected and downloaded within VCP's user interface, provided the cable owner has their subscription active (IIRC). Sorry, I'm not looking for support for VCP. I'm aware of the VCP file manager, I just didn't expect them to have the needed characteristics (in fact, having just now verified, they do not). My question was meant to be more general, if there was a known source, ideally somewhere from VW, to get these characteristics.

Ideally I want to follow up on the "IDE06133-Software end-stop reset" process, as that seems like it'll do what I need it to, without having to flash anything. Is this the kind of information erwin would have? I assume this maps to a process in the controller, so there have to be instructions for it somewhere, I'm just not sure where to look.

Oh that such a published source was available. Can you imagine how much easier our job would be if VAG published such?

We too seek that information. Unfortunately, that is kept very close to the vest and is not available to the public to the best of our knowledge.

Unfortunately not. The thread you links is mainly regarding ZF Gen.3 and APA-BS racks, that were used in the Golf MK VI and the like.

However there are some steering characteristics parameter files available (in VCP System), but I would rather try the aforementioned Basic setting to reset the max. steering angle before eventually going into the uncertainty of parameter files.

So good news/bad news.

Good news is that the software end stop reset process is the same as on the mk6, documented here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Assist#Steering_Limit_Stop_Adaptation You'll receive a "Finished correctly" immediately, but it will go to "Not adapted" until you work through the steps. It's actually even a little simpler. as it'll consider itself adapted when you start turning the steering wheel back for step 4.

The bad news is, while it did let me turn the steering wheel past(!) the previous stop locations when I was doing the basic setting, upon it being finished, the old end stops were back.

I'm not sure where to go next from here, I'm a little hesitant to flash new parameters to the rack, as I certainly do not have a copy of the original ones. I did source frf files with the newest software version directly from VW (all it took is a flight to Germany ;)), but I'm not sure if flashing those would revert the parameter changes. I could always just turn off the software end-stops in the adaptation, but I'm not sure if that has potential for doing any damage long term. Does anyone more familiar with the functionality of these steering racks know how valuable that function is?

depending on the module, parameterization will or won't be affected by flashing a software upgrade, so it looks like jumping a plane without the parachute.

I would say live with it. if you persist, be careful.
