Passat CC not showing rain closing (FIXED) and WiFi options in instrument cluster

Hi there!

I am trying to figure out why my tweaks don't show up. I have a 2010 VW Passat CC TDI and I enabled Rain Closing as well as WiFi in VCDS. This should bring up 2 extra options in the instruments cluster, but nothing is happening. Could it be I need something to be updated/upgraded to show these new features?

Rain closing is not working, however the rainsensor is working fine during driving. Same goes for the WiFi: the new bluetooth module is working for bluetooth and voice commands + phonebook (2 options I did not have before) but no WiFi network is visible.

For Rain Closing: I enabled it in both the RLS / Module 09 and Module 46.
For Wifi: module 77 has WiFi enabled. Using VCDS I can see some settings too (like Wifi networkname VW WIFI) but Wifi itself is invisible. Other options like Phonebook did appear.

Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated. :)

Looks like a black and white screen BAP cluster to me, no? If the normal phone functions are displayed, so should be the WiFi options.

Are you letting the car sleep after coding changes?

Correct. Black and white screen. All is showing but not WiFi. Same goes for the Rain Closing function which should appear in the Convenience menu afaik... Some friends of mine have done the same thing before and got it all working.

@siLc thanx, I will compare it to mine. In 77 I found an option to enable WiFi and I see all kinds of WiFi settings in VCDS, but that's it. I have the feeling I have some component in my car that might need an update. However, I see some small differences when I compare my coding to yours, let's hope one of those is the culprit option.

@bwant: letting sleep = canbus to rest state? I coded it yesterday, so I assume that should be enough. :)

What phone are you using and is it connected using rSAP/Premium BT?

I can't be sure but you might only get the WiFi option after connecting a suitable phone via rSAP.

... Rain Closing doesn't work with all sensors... but if coded correctly It should show up in Infotainment-systems... Sure you followed all steps, besides enabling the option you have to change a few adaption-channels!

Good news! I got rain closing working today. Apparently in Module 09 at the RLS options I had enabled the bit for the Rain Closing option, but the next bit actually disabled Comfort Closing incl. Rain Closing all together and that was still set. :banghead: I unchecked it and Rain Closing appeared in the Convenience Menu. Locked the car with the windows open, sprayed my window and all closed perfectly!

So now only the WiFi issue remains. :)

Indeed, I heard that too. I have an iPhone X so no rSAP, however a friend of mine had this WiFi working with his iPhone too. I've done some research and if I understood correctly the Premium option uses rSAP to directly connect to the SIM in your phone, offering the best possible connection. I tried both options, but still nothing.

Still... could be that my iPhone is the reason, maybe something is blocked in newer iPhones that was open when my friend had it working on his (older) iPhone a couple of years ago.

No stock iPhone supports rSAP and therefore won't support 'Premium BT' or the WiFi hotspot :)

It's possible your friend had a jailbroken iPhone as this thread suggests that may make rSAP possible: http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/...Working-with-High-Telephone-and-data-Services

Maybe... I just spoke to him and he wasn't really sure but thought it was a normal iPhone.
I know rSAP is not an option as Apple does not allow this, but is rSAP really necessary for WiFi? I hoped the Handsfree setting (instead of Premium) would be the "iPhone solution".

In short, yes :)

There is basically a car phone inside modules that support 'Premium BT'. By using rSAP, it effectively remove the SIM card from the mobile phone and plugs it into the car phone. This means the mobile phone can no longer connect to the mobile network, cannot make/receive calls/SMS or use data services.

Most people now use smart phones and need data services (sat nav etc) whilst connected to BT. To 'fix' this, the two latest BT module revisions (3C8...D and E) are able to connect to the mobile network via 3G then create a WiFi hotspot for the mobile phone to connect to, allowing it access to data services again. As the car phone is connecting to the mobile network, it still needs a SIM card and therefore a mobile phone that supports rSAP.

None of this can work using 'Handsfree BT' as it's a not possible to 'move' the SIM card, leaving the car phone unable to connect via 3G and making a WiFi hotspot useless ;)

If I remember correctly, someone rooted a 3C8...D or E a while back using a USB stick and was able to add both a SIM and SD reader to the PCB as the solder pads were already present. I'm not sure if this allowed them to turn it into a permanent hotspot or not. These days a MiFi style device would probably be easier.

Found the presentation and the github repo for rooting it :)

Thanks for reminding me of this. In BT settings one can change between "Handsfree" and "Premium", the latter being the rSAP and WiFi-enabling choice. I had an Android phone at the time (LG Nexus 5X) and after trying Premium for one time, I switched back to Handsfree as obviously I needed a data connection on my phone.

Thanx for your elaborate answer, much appreciated! Unfortunately my boss is paying my phone so rooting it is a "no go". I think I need to be happy what I have right now and forget about WiFi. :-)

EDIT: that video is pretty interesting! Thanx for sharing!
