I do agree with you Uwe, I thought for the casual VCDS scanner/user , it may be a bit much $$$; but for the regular user, (once a week or more) , the convenience features may be worth it. Usually you can do pretty well for 100-150 USD, so for the extra 100 or so it would come down to personal preference and frequency of usage (IMO).
For that cost, at least you would be motivated to Use it!! ;)

Last place you want that is to hang it on the bonnet, in your way and head.

Interesting. In each case, they sound like they're spinning up some kind of flywheel with those hand-cranks.

They should have just fitted a plastic ripcord, like my toys had when I was a kid, or like beyblades :D

A few years ago, the battery went flat in Dads 1929 Ford "A". We spent a while trying to push it up the drive, and *eventually* though to get the crank handle out.

We set everything up and Dad grabbed the handle, to turn the engine to the start of a compression stroke, ready for a bid pull on the handle... but... as he turned it into position, it burst into life

Yep. It used to crank pretty slow! But then with about 4.2:1 compression, there wasn't much load on it :D

So sending an update file full of zeros is simply said: incompetence.

I thought this was a good/general explanation of how the ecu and fan systems work:
