My mate lives 2 doors down from me and builds hot VW motors... I remember driving his 2.3 type 1 in a 1303S Super beetle... once the clutch was out and the throttle was on... it just started valve bouncing in 1st :-D Something like 9000Rpm :-D I can't remember if it was that car, or a later one, with a 2.9 type 4 motor... but he was just creeping past an RS500 sierra down the back straight at Pukekohe raceway... he got to brake later than the Sierra, so got into the hairpin in front of it

He had his beetle on one of the NZ made "High Octane" movies... nut he was trying to race it on standard VW brakes and had to give up and let the other cars past

He has a 1303 with a Corvair 6 cylinder now.
