My father in law was an avid hill walker/climber and he found a chap who had been hit by lightening whilst hill walking, he did not survive...

I don't think we was actually struck. Watching that video several times, I think lightning hit the street, or maybe the tree. I also see no evidence of burns on him when he walks up to the door. That said, a strike that close would still have produced a deafening sound / over-pressure wave, and I'm sure his body & brain were in shock.

Lightning can be really bad even if you are not directly hit. During a sever thunderstorm my assistant was sitting at her desk and lightning hit the electrical outlet 3' away and blew the recepticle out of the box. The shock wave caused the left side of her face to swell like it was hit with a baseball bat. NOT good at all and very scary.

To survive that impact is testimony to the safety regs and whoever built that car. What a brutal accident. Looked like total brake failure.
