15 years ago, I was at a Bass Pro Shops location where Toyota had set up a booth showing off some of their engineering choices and why it made their cars more reliable than the competition - things like felt body shims instead of rubber, over-spec'd top-end materials, stronger suspension components, better software tunes, etc. I want that Toyota back, the one that really cared about making a better product than their competition. They still do it in EPA metrics (Toyota still makes the best hybrid drive systems, for example), but they stopped doing it in the quality of materials and assembly.
