I find it amusing that he uses a desktop PC in the shop for VCDS and a laptop in his office. That strikes me as slightly bass-ackwards.
But it's always a pleasure to watch someone who understands how stuff in a particular car actually works diagnose a problem.

Love the bit where he offers his phone number to the man that bodged it so he could call him a C - And he should not be allowed near a car !! That is me !!
His product knowledge of the R8 is far better than mine !!
I would have checked the Power Supplies to the HVAC - There could be more than one? Each supplying the L & R Control Valves ! He did not say he knew that ? Did he or did he not know ? X
Did he check Power Supplies & Grounds ? X He made the assumption it was a Driver / Mosfet / IGBT Failure ?
That Hvac Power Supply comes from a Fuse(s). Remove the fuse(s) and insert fused Link wire(s) - Amp Clamp around the Wire(s) and measure Voltage & Current there ! Non Intrusive !
No fix confirmed in that Video - Good Sharp, talented kid there though !

We could debate the claims and motivations for this video for years. 
That being said as an owner of both manual and DSG vehicles, having driven over 500,000 miles in 7 countries on 2 continents, it's my experience that auto trans were originally developed primarily in the U.S. so that more vehicles could be sold to the masses. If all operators needed to manage was the brakes, gas, and steering it was far easier for them to drive. All the other theories are certainly debatable. I doubt that the goal was to take power away from the 5% of the drivers in the U.S. capable of properly driving a manual trans. Selling more vehicles seems to be the real impetus IMO.

Some, sure. But there is no question that I feel far more engaged in driving, and in control when at the edge of traction, with a manual than an automatic of any kind.
But then I'm an old curmudgeon who wears a mechanical watch too.
