2011 Golf 1.6 TDI - sensor reference voltage - maybe crankshaft position sensor???

I have had a Golf in the workshop today, which intermittently stutters and loses power in a manner that suggests a crankshaft sensor fault. However the persistent fault code shows "6557 - Sensor Reference Voltage B P0653 00 [167] - Too High".
When the car came in, there was a couple of crankshaft sensor codes stored, but they have not returned yet. Any feedback much appreciated. Below is an autoscan, and also a scan of the engine module fault codes when the car first arrived. The problem is very intermitent - most of the time, the car drives normally.

Hey Jim,

I bet the alternator is wigging out in overcharge condition from weak battery, connectivity issue or plain old faulty regulator. Be sure to check if supported by LIN & BCM is making correct load requests with ECU. Don't forget to check for faulty freewheel clutch on alternator serpetine too!
Load test G28 tracks and inspect ECU for water ingress.
Change G28....

Thanks Jack - good point about the alternator - i'll check the voltages and connections. I thought the 'B' voltage was a stabilised 5V reference voltage put out by the ECU to supply the sensors - can this be affected by the alternator voltage?
I've replaced many of the freewheeling clutched pulleys, but usually because they make a noise. I didnt realise it could alter the alternator output. I'll check it out...
