6R Polo with MFSW almost working

I have an MY13 6R Polo here with factory fitted telephone/media kit and factory fitted MFSW buttons which are only on the LEFT side of the steering wheel - seemingly this is a normal thing for cars that did not get optioned with the 'MFD' trip computer which uses a button panel on the right side of the steering wheel.

The buttons for controlling the radio volume and channel selection work fine.
The button for answering/hanging up a phone call does NOT work.
The button for 'push to talk' (PTT) also does NOT work.

The module in question appears to be this one, but VCDS does not give any advise on coding options for this component. I did try a bunch of different codes in a semi-logical fashion, but they all got denied and I can only get the original '020000' code to stick.

I have googled furiously for a while across various VW forums without success, so if anyone has any insight on coding options to correct this it would be great.

I did verify on the RADIO coding that MFSW is enabled - otherwise, none of the buttons work. I also found another coding option on the RADIO module which transformed the PTT button into a MUTE function so I know that button is physically working.

Maybe there is a particular combination of codes required across the MFL, Radio & Media Player modules for all buttons to work as expected ?

So after a lot more digging, I am starting to believe the lack of button functionality is a shortcoming of the integration with RCD310 radio and handsfree TPK module. When I attempt to code the radio with phone or phone preparation there is a clue this is expecting CAN bus connectivity to some other Bluetooth module which is why it fails to accept that code.

The best I can do is get the 'PTT' button working as a mute function for the radio, unless the car is equipped with voice recognition system.

I think the factory TPK module only has analog connectivity with the radio (for mute function and line level audio) so I am now forming the view that the phone button on the left MFSW panel will only work with a Bluetooth adapter which is integrated via CANBus.

Unless someone else has better knowledge ?

This MDI interface you have in this car is only a media interface in the wired form - there is no Bluetooth on this part number (5N0 035 342F) of MDI. You can get Bluetooth with part number 5N0 035 729E or adding a seperate dedicated Bluetooth module.

Or you have something akin to a Parrot Bluetooth system, which is not on the CAN bus?

i think the problem is the compatibilty of the TPK handsfree with the MFSW. Your coding all seems fine. However there is no adress 77 (telephone) to send any commands to, I think that's the problem...

Thanks for that folks - all consistent with my new found understanding. The reason why the Radio rejects any attempt to code with telephone is the non existence of a suitable controller at address 77. This entry level TPK module does not integrate with the phone & PTT buttons on the left MFSW panel - slightly annoying but such is life!
