Audi A5 2.0 TFSI Fault Help Please

Hello to all,new member here with an issue on a newly acquired vehicle that has suffered a small front end crash but has been repaired. The problems I have are hopefully listed in the VCDS autoscan that I have attached.Vehicle runs fine and only throws up the MIL after a couple of ignition cycles,but what trouble me is that the 2nd fault does not clear at all and has no date/time stamp.I have flushed complete cooling system through and re-bled as per Audi instructions and would appreciate any further help from you knowledgeable people .

My guess is a broken thermostat. They tend to fail in these engines, about a year ago I had similar problems with same CNCD engine.

Not familiar, but noted code in N422 climatronic fault, as stated not familiar with it and don't know if this is on the havac side of things.

Being crashed, did the right radiator get in? Always have
To ask. As stated recharged as per Audi instructions, again, did it get burped, happens plenty. I recommend an uplift tool to make sure system is purged. Good luck.

Provided there are no air pockets in the coolant system, I suspect the most likely issue is the thermostat. On most engines, when the thermostat is removed, you can get your fingers onto the impeller of the coolant pump. If this is the case, then with the thermostat off, make sure the impeller of the coolant pump doesn't have any wiggle or free play in it, should feel solid.

But first thing I would sort out is the fault code in the HVAC:

03220 - Stop Valve for Coolant for Climatronic (N422)
009 - Open or Short to Ground

The N422 get power from fuse SB7, but so do several other items, so if the fuse was bad, you'd have a lot more fault codes.

• Is the wiring from the fuse to the N422 good?
• Ohm test the N422, what value do you get?
• HVAC grounds the N422, wiring to the HVAC module good?
• T17b connector at lower right A pillar (blue), any issues there?

While I have my doubts fixing the N422 electrical issue will sort out your P00B7 code, may as well sort it out first and see if you get lucky.

In addition to Jef's great suggestions............
I'd have my eyes on whether this thing has PSI in order to perform its task too & as a closed cooling system relies on PSI, so before doing anything verify this.......because that could indicate a leak without evidence of a leak, such as for example a twisted o-ring at expansion tank cap!

Thankyou all for your replies,I will answer all in order.
Mika M your suggestion was my initial assumption based on being informed of the electronic thermostat problems with these engines,so thanks for confirming my suspicions.
Larry Manton thanks for your input as well, I did a coolant flush as a precaution and burped the system correctly,being confident of no air in the system.
Jef your suggestions have had me testing components and wiring this evening and I have come to the conclusion that the N442 coolant valve has indeed gone open circuit so I have ordered a replacement which should be with me soon,and as im sure you are aware the thermostat waterpump on these engines is basically one unit controlled by a rotary valve and according to my TPS man they are a very good seller due to faults,so I have also ordered this part as well.
And finally thanks to Jack for your suggestion and yes plenty of PSI in the system so quite confident of no leaks.

Hello to all again,I thought I would update this thread with some good news.
I have replaced the faulty N442 valve and that is working correctly now and have also had the waterpump/thermostat changed for the uprated part and that has also fixed the P00B7 code.
The only fault I have now is the 01771 - Control Module for Headlight Range (J431).
As I understand this module is incorporated in the power control module in my car so I need to hunt this down and find a fix.
If I were to buy a secondhand power control module would it require coding and or component protection removal or is it plug and play?

Does this car have a stand alone J431? A quick look at wiring shows that from August 2011, headlight electronics are wired up to the J519. Looking at a similar car... no address 55.

Remove 55-Headlight Range from the Installation List in the CAN Gateway.
