I bought a Passat B8 GT (2016 model) a few months back and thought I would share some of the mods I’ve carried out. Please note, much of the information that has allowed me to carry out some of these mods are from internet forums, speaking with the dealer and through my own experimentation. I believe many of these mods are applicable to all VAG cars based on the MQB chassis.

Passenger Mirror Down in Reverse
Following this mod the passenger mirror dips down when reverse is engaged and returns up when moving off (or turning the ignition off). It only works when it’s enabled in the infotainment unit and the mirror adjustment knob is pointing towards the passenger side (left here in the UK).

Select 52-Door Elect., Pass.
Enter Long Coding and enable bits 2 and 3 of byte 4

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following two channels to active

  • IDE08542-ENG116650-Access control 2-Spiegelabsenkung bei Rueckwaertsfahrt (enables mirror down in infotainment unit)
  • IDE08542-ENG116657-Access control 2-Menuesteuerung Spiegelabsenkung (enables the mirror dip menu option in the infotainment unit)
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Rain Closing of Windows
Following this mod the windows will close if rain is detected. It only works when it’s enabled in the infotainment unit and I am unsure if the sunroof closes. I found it a little temperamental and haven’t tried it in anger, only with a spray bottle of water!

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Long Coding on the RLFS slave module and enable bit 2 of byte 0 (no labels exist for me). NB many suggest enabling bit 1 of byte too but this function appears to be for lights on in rain and not auto rain closing.

Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the first two channels to permanent and the last to active:

  • IDE08542-ENG125655-Access control 2-Regenschliessen_ein_aus
  • IDE08542-ENG125656-Access control 2-Regenschliessen_art
  • IDE08542-ENG122186-Access control 2-Menuesteuerung Regenschliessen (enables the rain closing menu option in the infotainment unit)
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Change Discover Media Start-up Logo
This mod allows you to change the start-up logo of the infotainment unit (Discover Media in my case).

Select 05-Infotainment
Enter Long Coding and change byte 18 to any one of the following. Please note that no labels were available for me.

  • 00 None (my car’s default)
  • 01 Hybrid
  • 02 GTD (my preferred choice)
  • 03 GTI
  • 04 Bluemotion
  • 05 E-Golf
  • 06 R-Line
  • 07 Golf R
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Beep on Lock / Unlock
Following this mod the car will beep once when locked and beep twice when unlocked. It must be enabled in the infotainment unit and will only beep when all doors lock or unlock successfully.

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following three channels to active

  • IDE02269-ENG116666-Acknowledgement signals-Akustische Rueckmeldung entriegeln (enables unlock beep)
  • IDE02269-ENG116667-Acknowledgement signals-Akustische Rueckmeldung verriegeln (enables lock beep)
  • IDE02269-ENG122188-Acknowledgement signals-Menuesteuerung akustische Rueckmeldung (adds the audible lock/unlock option to the car menu)
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Enable / Disable DRL (inc. car menu)
Following this mod the car menu has the option to enable or disable the day-time running lights (DRL). Please be aware that disabling the DRL in your country may not be permitted – I believe that it’s an MOT test failure in the UK on new cars.

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to active

  • IDE06864-ENG116594-Daytime running lights-Tagfahrlicht Aktivierung durch BAP oder Bedienfolge moeglich (adds the option to the car menu)
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

DRL only in Auto
I dislike that the DRLs were on all the time with the Passat B8 so I added the option to disable them in the MIB unit. This mod takes things a step further and ensures they only come on when the light switch is on Auto and the DRLs are enabled in the MIB unit. NB the DRLs are also on when the driver selects the side lights.

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to active

  • Tagfahrlicht nur in Schalterstellung AUTO

Change Comfort Turn Signals
Following this mod the comfort turn signals will indicate the desired number of times. Valid options are between 3 (default) and 5. I have yet to find an option that allows you to change the number within the infotainment unit.

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to your desired number (4 for me)

  • IDE04923-ENG116587-Turn signal control-Komfortblinken Blinkzyklen
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Offroad Car Menu
Following this mod the comfort turn signals will indicate the desired number of times. Valid options are between 3 (default) and 5. I have yet to find an option that allows you to change the number within the infotainment unit.

Select 5F-Infotainment
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following three channels to active

  • ENG122227-ENG117566-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_compass
  • ENG122227-ENG117568-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_compass_over_threshold_high
  • ENG122229-ENG117732-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-compass_0x15
Reset the infotainment unit to factory defaults and restart the unit.

Audi Throttle Mod
This mod improves the throttle response of the Passat by changing the engine branding from "VW/Seat/Skoda" to "Audi". In my opinion it's the best performance mod you can make one step short of remapping. Research shows that some drivers who've made this mod on other MQB platforms (Golf Mk7 from memory) report some errors in the dashboard.

Select 01-Engine
Enter Long Coding and change the first byte from 01 to 02 (i.e. uncheck bit 1 and check bit 1)

You will probably receive any error message in the instrument cluster - this is OK. Just cycle the ignition and away you go!

Disable Brakes upon Engine Stalling
I noticed that when stalling the car violently applies the brakes which makes the experience both embarrassing and unpleasant. This mod disables the ABS unit slamming on the brakes when stalling.

Select 03-Brakes
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to not active

  • Automatic application during engine stalling
I noticed the ABS light(s) flashing briefly after the adaptation was accepted but all has been well since then.

Lock car with ignition on
This mod allows those cars with KESSY installed to have the ignition turned on (and optionally have the engine running) and the doors to be locked. It's great for those cars without a Webasto heater installed (like mine :-().

Select 09-Cent. Elect.
Enter Security Access – 16 and provide security code 31347
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to active

  • channel IDE05142-ENG115754-Access control-Funk bei Klemme 15 ein

Here's a few more mods I've carried out...

Instrument Lights on with Side Lights / Parking Lights
The default behavior in my Passat is for the instrument lights to only turn on when the headlight switch is in the Auto position or the Dipped Headlight position. The insturemtns are, very annoyingly, off when the side lights / parking lights are selected. This mod allows you to enable the instrument lights when side lights / parking lights are selected which is useful when it's light enough to drive without headlights but too dim to see the instruments in the dark. I believe VW/Audi/etc. have done this to remind or encourage the driver to switch on the headlights as the light drops. For more information check out the instrument Y Values.

Select 17-Instruments
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to tdl from parking_light:

  • channel Illumination_algorithm - Scale_switching_algorithm
I believe that if you change this value to "Not available" then the instrument cluster is permanently lit.

Disable ignition warning when door is opened
This will stop the instrument cluster from shouting at you that the ignition is switched on and the door(s) have been opened. Similarly, it can be used to enable the warning when any of the doors have been opened.

Select 17-Instruments
Enter Adaptation – 10 and set the following channel to No display from Driver door:

  • channel Ignition active message, actuator

hi all,
just did this on my my2016 passat r. I have the 10 colours on the dash, but not teh door LEDs, any one got any ideas?

Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Adaptations:
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Rotwert Farbe 1: 144
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Gruenwert Farbe 1: 24
Ambientelicht Farbliste: Blauwert Farbe 1: 28
Change all colours up to 10, none can be R: 0, G: 0, B: 0 as none will work
I got the numbers for RGB from MS Excel (format cell > fill), but from other posts, Create Color Schemes, Test Color Combinations - Colorspire will give the same result.
Pick what colours you like, find the RGB, enter those numbers into Rewert (Red), Gruenwert (Green) and Blauwert (you guessed it, Blue)
My favourite colour is Maroon, so R, G, B is 144, 24, 28, but need to lighten the colour up a bit.

I also have the below settings active, again, not sure if they need to be or not, but they work.
Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Adaptations:
Int. light, 2nd generation: weicher Farbwechsel: active
Int. light, 2nd generation: Instrumententafelbeleuchtung mehrfarbig: active
Int. light, 2nd generation: Mittelkonsolenbeleuchtung mehrfarbig: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambiente_Applikationsleisten_in_Instrumententafel: installed
Interior light, light configuration: Mittelkonsolenbeleuchtung: installed
Interior light, light configuration: LIN-Dachkonsole lokal aktivierbar: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambientemenue mit globalem aus: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambientemenue mit alle Zonen: active
Interior light, light configuration: Ambient_Farbliste_HMI: active
Interior light, light configuration: Frei_Farbwahl_ueber_HMI: active

Cold Boot MIB Unit
Hold down left button for 10 seconds (or so)
Wait for restart
Reset Background Lighting Setting in MIB
with MIB on, goto the below;
Menu > Vehicle > Settings > Factory Reset > Background Lighting > Reset

Then you can go into Menu > Vehicle > Settings > Background Lighting
You should have 10 colours at the bottom to choose from, select a colour, and both the MIB and AID change to that colour. If not, there may be a 3 colour small box to the right at the bottom.

Hy,
Goublin

You have only white light in all doors, because your doors do not have RGB LED MODULE 3G0927103G installed .
The RGB LED MODULE can be bought separately for each door but I don't know if WHITE LED is glued on the door ornament !!
After you change the RGB LED MODULE is necessary to make electrical modification to each door controller, because now the WHITE LED don't have LIN signal from CENTRAL ELECTRONICS !!!
I have the ELSA scheme but I don't know how to attache the XPS document !!!

Have a nice day !!!

I tested this tweak on my 2015 passat B8 and it's really nice. It set throttle and brake on sport mode without driving profil selection... but there some other bad changes!
speed limiter is a little bit different (no problem) but there is no longer service interval on 5F.
VW and AUdi adresses are different:
For VW
Code:
ENG122229-ENG117726-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-service_interval_display_0x12,activ ,64
ENG122229-ENG117727-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-service_interval_display_0x12_msg_bus,Bus de données confort ,64

For audi
Code:
ENG122229-ENG117726-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-service_interval_display_0x12,activated ,64
ENG122229-ENG117727-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-service_interval_display_0x12_msg_bus,Terminal 15 ,6

I changed for terminal 15 but service interval didn't came back.

You could try to enable Bit 1 and 2 simultaneously. This is what some other cars have for the pedal change, i. e. some Octavia 3 RS.
Did you restart the Infotainment using the "keep button pressed" method after changing the coding/adaption?

Yes, I restarted the MIB.
What do you mean by enabling bit 1 and 2? With long coding helper, I just have a menu to set VW/SEAT/SKODA or AUDI.

Just do it by hand using the "Bitfield" in Long Coding Helper. The dropdown won't display this method, as it is undocumented. New coding should start with 03...

OK, this should allow VW+Audi functions then? There's no risk of malfunction? Some functions like ACC are different in VW or Audi mode... You're sure you have seen it yet, I can do it?

When I tried changing to Audi mode on my Skoda Octavia both ACC and ABS threw many DTCs so I hade to revert back to Skoda coding. Som other, but not all, Octavia owners have had the same thing happen.

So try it, but be prepared for multiple DTCs to appear and have to revert back to standard coding...

Ok, no DTC but enabling byte 1 both bit 1 and 2 is just impossible. It rejects the coding .
When I return to VW mode, Service interval doesn't come back in 5F, even after resetting it.
It's not so bad but I don't like losing control...

There was no relation, it was an error that deactivated SIA...
