Have taken various logs whilst engine on load and imported into Excel as graphs. Air filter is new. No smoke/pressure tests have been carried out on intake/exhaust. Any pointers on what data to focus on and/or most probable cause would be appreciated. Many "Lambda" readings in VCDS. Don't currently know which of Lambda readings to look at or whether the Lambda sensors are wide band type.

This happens usually from a bad heater or internal issue with the OXS sensor from ash pile up/water causing corrosion on the sensor itself.

There were updates for firmware on this to ignore the threshold some.
I think you are up to date.

You can also try cleaning the sensor by heating with a propane torch to remove impurities.
Run Lubro moly fuel additive and check oil spec/level being to high.
Consider more force regens to heat the system up for burn off.

If this is the case in this instance (faulty Lambda sensor), I'm not sure which of the two sensors it is most likely to be.

Does anyone know whether there is any way I can confirm a Lambda sensor fault (taking into account my particular fault code) by monitoring with VCDS or from the freeze frame info listed with the fault?

I must admit that I was originally thinking that the fault might be due to almost anything that could influence the air/fuel mix or MAF accuracy if it wasn't a Lambda sensor.

Sensor B1 S1 = ( Bank 1 Sensor 1)

This means........... most forward OXS sensor closest to engine in front of CAT/Particulate ASH trap.

Things like the repair manual and WD component locators are a great way to get to understand where and what things are for locations and function.

Thanks. Sensor was found with carbon deposits. Not too far off recommended change miles which is 250k. It is a wide-band unit. Car belongs to a friend who now plans to try removing it again and cleaning with vinegar or something similar and will most likely end up fitting a new sensor.

I have had excellent results with taking sodium hydroxide ( Most common oven cleaner ) Then CLR ( calcium lime rust cleaner ) Then rinse in soda ash/distilled water solution followed by being burned with a propane torch.

I have been experimenting with the CBEA for over 5 years! :p

Including with upper ADP channels after login to change the result for the target lambda threshold recently.

Some ecu's I have to change it manually in eeprom then BDM back.


I have also found that using SAE oil to reseal rings and prevent ash is a considerable gain in MPG/Power............ with no issue for turbo chargers since the TDI runs much cooler than the typical gas engines. This includes modified cars..........

Now for guys that think I am crazy............I am............ and will always do what is not the norm to verify on my own.

All ALH/1Z/AHU cars I serviced in my care for every oil change have gone past 275 K on the original turbo. ( every 5K change ) with SAE oil!
Two cars are running to this day with the original oil filter never changed, turbo, nor head gasket. VC was removed to inspect........clean like new!
ATD/BRM/BEW didn't destroy lifters or cams ............go figure.

However............ for PD cars we did mods of spray bath drips on the cam/rocker area............ with a custom spray rail, and cranked up the relief PSI at the pump removing regulation from the oil filter housing.

The best idea we have for a solution so far is removing turbo charger lubrication from the sump with its own cooler, pump and sump.
Then the engine is virtually contamination free in comparison to OEM design.

Synthetic oil for gear boxes and certain applications are superior, however, when it comes to common sense of sealing a combustion chamber for blow by it is not!

Two issues I see with synthetic oil which are stupid and negate the reason for paying up for it.

Contaminates itself by allowing fuel into sump and then shoots vapors into emission required recovery systems causing carbon and ASH/Misfire/CAT damage and the evil domino effect it perpetuates to engine or component DEATH!

This is why I mix it or change very frequently with SAE.

I am convinced I am correct, especially for what I have observed in the 1.8T 2.0T, V8 W12, AND V-VR6 engines........... all the other ones needed chains, none and I mean none have yet to need this in my care with SAE oil.

Not been on forum for a long time. Very late update:- New Lamba sensor was fitted after cleaning original with oven cleaner failed. Perhaps too late to catch it with cleaning in our case. Problem solved. All still OK a year later. All advice was much appreciated.
