I suspect this might be a byte 18 mystery.

I want to replace the DRLs on a MY12 Octavia Elegance with LEDs but this will cause a blown bulb warning on the dash. As the VRS model came with LED DRLs I hope it's as simple as copying the coding over, assuming Skoda wire the DRLs in both cars identically...

Any suggestions on both the original byte 18 and a VRS byte 18 would be? Non-xenon in both cases.

Thanks!

Anyone got any ideas? I've only found one post about byte 18 coding on a similar octavia here: http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthr...CM-(1k0-937-087-J)&p=3388&viewfull=1#post3388

Dana states the following codes:
34,Lighting: Skoda Octavia (1Z/SK35) Rest of World / Left Hand Drive / separate DRLs
36,Lighting: Skoda Octavia (1Z/SK35) Rest of World / Left Hand Drive / Scandinavian DRLs
38,Lighting: Skoda Octavia (1Z/SK35) Rest of World / Left Hand Drive / Xenon-Shutter DRLs

Do we also know what they are for RHD vehicles and the VRS versions?

Anybody got any ideas? I've tried to PM Dana unsuccessfully (full inbox) so is it possible another ross-tech employee can point this in their direction?

Thanks,

As long as your BCM support LED light, is easy
Hovewer there is a solutuion now to "code" any BCM to support LED light .
Also you can custom adjust light OUTPUT in BCM , so no need any more swap wires for extra light
Unfortunatelly not via VCDS

Excellent, so do you happen to know if the 1K0 937 087 Q does support LEDs?

I assume I would need access to VAS to change these settings, are you able to provide any extra information as I'm sure I could find a friendly dealer once I know what I need to change.

087Q not support LED but can be "adjust" to.
VAS will do almost this same as VCDS, but both unit are not strong enaught this time.

So if I did want to try modifying the BCM without using VCDS/VAS, what would I need? Are you able to provide more information or should we take this to PM as it's not really a VCDS question anymore.

Thanks!

You have 2 options:

1. Prepare for the visit in the dealership - to restore Your DRL's working again. If Your vehicle is LHD, change the byte 18 bvalue to $33 or $5B. If this will not help You, come back to 35 or 39. If Your's DRL's will not work at all, You need in this case to go to the dealer, to restore the genuine light setup. They know how to do it. They should know... You can purchase the error cancellers e.g. from this shop: http://sklep.motohid.pl/pl/p/Adapter-Kasownik-do-LED-DRL-Octavia-2-FL,-Superb,-Passat/339

2. Find somebody with VAS 5054a head and ODIS Engineering software. It could be VAG CAN Pro software as well. In the CECM module first login to the access and authorization by using 42013 login. Then go to the CECM memory cells and change the value of the following memory cells: 3109, 3110, 3111 from default values $02, $01, $30 to the modified $02, $81, $70 ($ = HEX).

The wiring for vRS and non vRS is totally different, The LED's on a vRS have 3 wires and you have 2 to your bulb. vRS also doesn't have the seperate wiring for the side light in the headlight (it's not in the harness from the BCM to the headlight)

Pins are:

Earth
Current controlled power supply
On / dimming signal to transistor in DRL module

That's correct, but we are talking not about retrofit vrs leds, but just replace existing bulb by led one.

Eagerly watching this thread as I desperately want to fit LED DRL's to mine...

Instead of disabling bulb checking on the DRL circuit would it not be possible to get the BCM to re-learn the resistance values?

Edit: The reason I ask is I see it as unlikely the resistance would be hard-coded as it will only accept a rather small resistance window as 'OK'. So if its not hard-coded then it has to be either a single value or between x value and y value. Essentially all we have to do is find these values and, for want of a better expression, move the goal posts. I must admit this is easier said than done... I know I'm new to VCDS but if it works like I think it works the I'd be surprised if it can't be done via VCDS, I do wonder if we just don't know what all the bits actually do...

It's probably not "hard coded", but "parameterized". The dealer's tools that we use as a reference for developing VCDS do not provide access to those parameter tables. VW has no interest in making it easy to do these sorts of upgrades; they would much rather you bought a heavily optioned model to begin with, because those heavily optioned cars are substantially more profitable for them than more basic models are.

I've had a look at the wiring diagrams and it looks like the pins on the BCM which are connected to the sidelights and DRL's in the elegance are both connected to the LED modules on the VRS.

Does anyone know what input the LED module is expecting? Assuming that it uses 12v on one wire to do full brightness (DRL mode) and 12v on the other to do dimmed brightness (sidelight mode) then it might be as easy as recoding byte 18 as a VRS.

Praise our lord Internet. :)
Pin 1: PO (Positionlight) alle 4 LED`s gedimmt (55 mA)
Pin 2: Masse
Pin 3: DRL bedeutet Day Running Light (also alle 4 zu 100% 380 mA)

Thanks for that golfi_vend - I've also seen reports of pin 1 and 3 being reversed and that one pin is power and the other is dim/full brightness.

In the wiring diagrams I can see that the following pins on the BCM are connected to

VRS (I've made assumptions about what the pins do, namely as 26 and 44 are only on cars without a sidelight fitted in the main cluster)
25 Fog lights
26 Left LED module pin 3 sidelight
44 Right LED module pin 3 sidelight
48 Left LED module pin 1 DRL
49 Right LED module pin 1 DRL

Elegance
25 Fog lights
26 Left sidelight
44 Right sidelight
48 Left DRL
49 Right DRL

Someone must have an idea of what the byte 18 codes should be for RHD VRS and non VRS cars without xenons? I've also been looking for the part number of a VRS BCM but I've not noticed anything yet.

There is no specified value of byte 18 for VRS model. It's parametrized directly by VAS.
Once, I've looking for that by trying all of the 256 f.... combinations with VCDS, and no success.

One more thing. 1K0 937 087 series has different byte 18 pre-coding table than the newest 1K0 937 087 AN...
So, there will be more complex cobinations for non-VAS users to find out correct CECM type and correct coding, if even possible.

The easiest, legal and cheapest way to retrofit the new bumper from VRS model is just do all the hardware work Yourself and ask dealer to parametrise the light configuration using VAS. If they don't know how to do it, just change the dealer or ask here for instructions.

I want to replace the DRLs on a MY12 Octavia Elegance with LEDs but this will cause a blown bulb warning on the dash.
I will start with this and I assume that you do not want to install VRS LEDs, but just put an LED bulb into existing place for DRLs.
Have you tried ticking Byte 27, Bit 2?
I can confirm that it worked on a 2009 Octavia 2 facelift, though it had this BCM installed: 1K0 937 086 F. No bulb warning after coding.

That's exactly what I want to do, I've tried setting byte 27, bit 2 tonight and I still get 'Open or Short to Plus' for both bulbs. I've found a willing helper with Van Can Pro so I may look at the locations suggested earlier in the thread.
