Hi!
I hope the following is not a waste of your time... I tried my best to figure it out and information is either outdated or not trustworthy.

I enabled the big speedo on my 2015 Tig by following the instruction i found all over the place:
Open Controller 17 (Instruments)
Open Coding 07
Long Coding Helper
Default Bit-4-7 (40 Country : Great Britain)
Bit-4-7 Set to (10 Country : Rest of World)

+ a bit of fiddling in the MFD settings using it's own controls on the steering wheel.

worked!
NOW, everyone seems to be happy with it displaying in mph. I can't figure how to switch to km/h.
It's not in the settings of MFD as it only changes the odometer and consumption units...

Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this is too basic..just point me in the right direction please... Cheers!

It would be appropriate to post an Auto-Scan here, so that people can see exactly what instrument cluster you've got.

What do you have in 17-Instruments -> Adaptation:

IIDE03346-MAS01456 - Units adjusted - Speed

The choice there should be Kilometers per hour or Miles per hour.

Thanks for such a swift reply sir!
Here's a fresh pic and it's kilometres per hour ;/ and yet speedo is in mph...:

Can it be just for for the alt. speed disp.?
Thank you very much for helping with this. I appreciate your time very much!

"Great Britain" still uses MPH, right? What happens if you change the country coding to Rest Of World?

I've done that already. As I mentioned in the first post:
I enabled the big speedo on my 2015 Tig by following the instruction i found all over the place:

Open Controller 17 (Instruments) -> Open Coding 07 - > Long Coding Helper -> Default Bit-4-7 (40 Country : Great Britain) ...set Bit-4-7 to (10 Country : Rest of World)

Without that my MFD wouldn't show the "Alt. speed disp." option in the menu... un-ticking that essentially disables the small km/h speed info(between/above) odo and trip and enables the big speedo. In the original spot it then shows outside temp.

So that's why I'm confused. Car is set to rest of the world and yet speedo shows mph and enabling alt. speed display disables big speedo and shows small km/h instead of outside temp again.

Fiddling with "Units" only affects odo and trip and consumption but seems to have no effect on the big speedo.

Thanks again, I'm still hoping... ;)

Just found this thread http://www.mytiguan.com/index.php?/topic/3399-digital-speedo-mph-vs-kmh/

Lads are trying to see if it can be done and so far not much luck. The assumption seems to be, that one needs to buy a new cluster with km/h analog speedo for it to show the digital speedo in km/h as it might be cluster-dependent and not available to set. But no one seems to have any deeper experience with VCDS so I'm still hoping...

People mention that changing countries to other than UK, US or RoW brought up faults in other systems (airbags and some other stuff), resetting to one of the three cleared faults up...

If Uwe says it's a no go, I live with mph ;) but it's hard to believe it's really impossible... would have to another one of those "not everything makes sense, it's VAG"...

I'm not gonna say, "It's no go".

What I am gonna say is: "I'm out of ideas".

Subtle difference. :)

Well...thank you for all your ideas so far and the time you have spent on this. I can't believe that my problem got the attention from the grand master himself.
At least I can be pretty sure that it's nothing simple and will definitely not try fiddling with VCDS to try to fix this one ;)

Thanks again sir!

I mention this before , it is not possible with scan tool to do this. It has to be done in memory of cluster.

http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthr...ometer-to-mph/page3&highlight=digital+display
Thank you for helping me sleep again ;)
It was driving me crazy.
When Uwe tried his best with VCDS it was obvious that there is no one more qualified to ask and VCDS won't help.
I thought it could be fixed only by replacing the whole cluster. Now...knowing it is factory level set and essentially cluster/region dependent gives me closure.

I will live with mph as it's definitely not worth the hassle of replacing the cluster and who knows, maybe one day I find Master Technician for German cars of Ireland ;) who can re-program my current cluster.

I'm very grateful and inspired ... to find kind people around the world, who take their time to answer a question like mine.

Thanks again gentlemen!

Not sure if similar as a a different/older model? but I did the opposite on my Son's 2011 Golf 1.4tsi which had the small digital speedo in kmh - due to the analogue dial only having a single scale for mph and EU/UK requiring both units to be readable (most UK cars with analogue speedo show dual scale).

To get it to show the large digital speedo I set it to 'Australia' in VCDS (UK gives the default kmh setting even though we use mph due to the aforementioned EU ruling), it then showed in kmh but I was able to change it to mph by changing 'consumption/distance' to mpg.

As per this guide; http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/2017/01/12/vcds-activate-big-digital-speedo-mfd-dis-mph/

Thanks for your reply.
The how-to describes the first part of what I'm trying to achieve here.
AFTER enabling the big speedo, I am trying to get it to show km/h instead of mph and that seems only possible with a replacement cluster or as per Master's reply, by factory level programming of the current cluster...

It seems that it doesn't matter if it is set to Australia or Rest of the World, as long as it's not UK the big speedo can be anabled and then (unfortunately) shows whatever is hard-coded in the cluster itself...

You do not need to replace cluster, it is tweak that has to be done in cluster memory .

However you can have small digital speed in Kmh , go to menu and choose Alternate speed like here, look under outside Temp :

While I appreciate the help... I know how to display small kmh, that is not the purpose of this thread.

We have established that:
A) VCDS - it is not possible (out of ideas how it would be possible;))
B) Cluster settings only allows for either small kmh OR big speedo in mph (or kmh) BUT it's cluster programming specific, meaning I can't be changed from one to the other without VAG/VAS factory level programming or system access I simply don't have (see Jetta's post)
C) No cluster settings have any effect on big speedo units, only odo, trip and consumption
I appreciate the help, I really do, but I have done my research and all these basic how-to's don't cover it.

If anyone thinks they can help me, please understand that Uwe himself doesn't have a solution to his and also read what Jetta said: http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?13822-2015-Tiguan-Big-Speedo-mph-to-km-h&p=125430&viewfull=1#post125430

and if you still think you got a solution, how to switch big speedo from mph to kmh using either VCDS or some other trickery which requires tools/knowledge that I, as a hobbyist, might have... PLEASE post it! That being said, thanks to all of you lads for trying to help!

If this modification is involves what I think it does, I rather doubt it can be done with the tools the dealers use. VAG doesn't want their dealer's technicians changing random bytes in the control module's EEPROM either. ;)
