Oil light on

Hello here I am again. thanks for your help.
I got an Audi with engine oil pressure light on when cold or at start up. Pressure is fine 18 psi at idle and maybe 50 psi at full rev. I replaced the reduced oil pressure sw already and have checked the oil pressure regulator valve which passed the test. also talking about oil pressure reg... is there any way to see Duty Cycle percentage DC% right out VCDS pids?

any comment is welcome.

Hi Victor,

I'm with Jack on mechanical issues related to oil pressure but make sure the reduced Oil Pressure switch was replaced. If memory serves, one is wired to the BCM or cluster an the reduced switch is wired to the ECM. They are two different colors and part numbers so if in doubt post the info from the new one.

Although unlikely a faulty (or low quality aftermarket) oil filer, or damaged black plastic spring loaded mechanism under the screw-on filter, can cause this issue and result in low oil pressure. In other cases however this code can be set right before the engine blows. For instance a catastrophic timing chain tensioner failure or cam bridge blow out (see the last pick of the sink screen blow out here) isn't uncommon with low oil pressure.

In a more recent case we had a shop with that reduced oil pressure code in addition to P0016 and after they sorted the cam bridge missing screen problem and tossed a new filter/oil change/oil pressure senor on it ... the HPFP continued to leak fuel into the oil and blew it up. They obviously didn't realize the fuel pump was blowing fuel into the crankcase. The fact that those cars don't have a dipstick doesn't help matters.

Jack I did the home work on the oil pump sump/ sludge conditions and everything checks out. also i replaced the oil according to specs. 5w40 4.5L. i am reflashing as well. thanks.

Question: the oil pressure reg valve, is it NC then ecm open it up by Duty cycling it?

Is the update done and is there a change for DTC?

ECU should control regulation yes and be forewarned as Dana aforementioned that correct sensors are installed with respective part numbers.

hi jack Car is Ok now, thank you.. re flashed was done as well. oil pump replacement did the miracle. this is oil pressure after replacement.

i just didn't quite get to understand how the oil pressure regulator valve works in this systems since apprear to be off most of the time.... anyway. thank you. I got 2 more same dtc along with some others.

Is there any way I can disable low oil light with VCDS? I recently replaced cam bridge, oil sensor, spring where you screw on oil filter, oil pump, checked fro any debry or slump in oil mesh inside oil pan, replaced timing upper timing guides with timing tensioner, send the cylinder head to get it rebuilt, 08 passat works fine the only flaw is that when I drive it in the city the annoying chime and turn of engine light will come on(low pressure oil) but if I drive it on highway speeds, the light will never come on, I just need to disable the light somehow

Light can be disabled but I will not be sharing how to bypass a crucial failsafe warning. Address the pressure issue before that thing spins a bearing or seizes.

@RGH0 @EuroX i agree with you too, that was my soul purpose in this project(08 passat) 2.0L TSI EA888. I want to do things the right way, but there is times that you just have to use the bypass lane. The only two things left, 1 is to reflash or update ECM. 2 is to check crankshaft bearings clearance, but I don’t really believe crankshaft bearing clearing should be the issue, because my sister drives the car every day from school to work, engine has not fail. I was hoping it would fail by now, then I could just replace the engine hoping that light chime will go away.

I would check oil pressure with a manual gauge Or check both oil pressure switches. Perhaps you have oil leaking into a oil pressure switch. I've seen it the right way is to fix the issue or diagnose the issue and determine cause or repair.
