02 MK4 GTI VR6 no-start.

I am having some peculiar problems with my GTI. It started with the a/c (climatronic equipped) not operating. heat and fan work normal. I was stupid...VERY stupid and was in a hurry. I wanted to jump the low press. sw. to start the compressor to see if it might be the sw. (I did this before I ordered my KII-USB pigtail). so I shorted it out as I heard a loud snap. The thermometer on the gauge cluster is not reading and the climate control display is blank. The vehicle was still running, but the EPC light came on. It didn't run quite right as I drove around the block for a test drive prior to repair, so I just parked it in my driveway and the MIL also came on as I was driving. Then it didn't start after letting it sit for an hour. I received my pigtail and did an auto-scan and found several codes stored. The next morning I tried to start it again and it started. but it has done the no-start again since.

I know that this is long, but as a technician, I know that the more info. the better I can narrow down the diagnosis. I've never seen this many codes stored in any vehicle I've worked on and any help that could point me in the right direction would be very appreciated. Thanks!

With a bit of luck you have just blown a fuse; a blown fuse can manifest itself as 'short to xx'. Uwe had (or still has??) a VR6 so he may be the best to respond for fuse locations etc.

Yep, those faults are indicative of a whole bunch of things not getting power. A blown fuse could certainly cause that, but the culprit is most often a bad Fuel Pump Relay.

My VR6 was an Mk.3, with M5.9 rather than the Mk.4 ME7.1 being discussed here, which is a totally different animal.

Thanks Diode and UWE! I kinda thought it was a fuse or circuit breaker type interruption. I'll re-check the fuses again and inspect that fuel pump relay.

If the 10 AMP fuse for consumers is blown............be sure to check the ( OXS ) oxygen sensor heater circuits first.
Start with isolating each and unplugging to test each track as they are all shared for supply switched terminal 15 B+.
Don't negate checking the ignition switch or switched ground terminal 31 for such an energizing loss of the FP relay being done by the controller J220 and redundant loops.

Study the current tracks and follow all star-gates for possible cross............

Ok, so I swapped the fuel pump relay with my wife's GTI and BAM!!!.......it fired! I'm gonna buy a new relay and ambient temp sensor (as mine is still inop.) clear the codes, reset readiness and then re-scan. Thanks for the inut guys, I really do appreciate it.
