There are not enough diesels in cars and light-duty trucks in the USA that it makes any real difference whether some portion of them end up with "deletes". And see my previous post. I don't believe this means that the requirement for DPFs on new diesel vehicles is going away.

So why did the US government freak out over the VW emissions defeat device?

If that happens, what about those Diesel brothers who were fined a huge amount for doing this? Another Trump pardon? He seems to be handing them out like Smarties.

I have no idea. I also have no sympathy for the clowns that made trucks "roll coal", because they're the ones that ruined it for everyone.

f you do a clean-running delete, people don't complain to the authorities. It's when you set it up to do this that people (rightfully) get upset:

I don’t remember ever seeing that in the UK, lots of stinking DPF delete cars though and the testing stations are widely complicit… in some cases actively providing the service.

It was a thing with diesel pickups here. Kinda like loud, straight pipes on Harley Davidsons.

lots of stinking DPF delete cars though
I remember how bad big cities like Frankfurt, Germany smelled around 2010, when half or more of the cars on the road were diesels and most of them did not yet have DPFs.

Thing is, you could delete every diesel passenger car and pickup truck on the road in the USA and never get close to that level of stink. There just aren't that many of them.

Just heard on Fox Business News that Audi is thinking about coming to the USA to avoid tariffs ; most likely would be a down south facility and would cost an estimated 4.6 billion USD.

And a manufacturer cheating on an entire product line is different than an individual doing a delete.

Indeed one is corporate financial gain (massive) on a scale that makes it criminal. The other is joe blogs keeping it running so he can get to work and back ??

To be fair he possibly cannot find a tech that can fix it for him correctly at affordable cost !!

The Qualifications and Training in this game is embarrassing - it is shit !!

I agree with this sentiment, especially if Joe's commute is outside an urban area, which would make the pollution from his car akin to peeing in the ocean, whereas a fully deleted diesel in an urban core is more like pooping in the swimming pool.

Idk but Jersey weird about emissions deletes i guess because its a densely populated area.
Wedged between NYC and Philly. Decades ago, parts of northern Jersey used to stink to high heaven from the various refineries. The same was true of parts of Philly along the Delaware river, and with the prevailing wind coming out of the west toward NJ, I'm sure that aroma got into southern NJ as well. So I can understand why NJ might be touchy about emissions.

Edit: just heard on Fox Business News that currently ESPN is paying 90-100 million USD per year to the broadcast rights of F1 and that contract will be expiring soon. Apple has made a bid of 150 million USD per year for those F1 rights as well !!

Yep, been tracking that one in near-real-time. Saw the up-close footage of him getting shot and immediately said "he didn't survive that". Sure enough, it has since been confirmed he died.

I suspect this one is going to get ugly in the USA.

Yeah, looked like the bullet severed a big artery in his neck causing instant, immense blood loss.

Killing people because you don't like their politics ain't right.
