Hello Ross-Tech,

I'm a bit new here but i hope to make some valuable contributions to the forum through the tasks at which i am looking to venture into.

Vehicle:-
I am currently the owner of a Euro Spec 2014 VW Jetta MK6. My vehicle is RHD and came with a 1.4 Turbo Supercharged Engine

What I have:-

I purchased a Set of OEM VW Jetta Bi-Xenon DRL Headlights for my vehicle.
Part numbers: 5C7941751.D / 5C7941752.D

The vehicle came with Factory Installed Halogen Headlamps (Euro Spec).

Current Position:-

So I had the lights installed over the weekend and they look great. When i Turn the ignition on, There's no DRL. So i tired the headlights. At first both headlights came on and the High and Low beams of the Bi Xenon came on. The indicator works as well.

However, when i start the vehicle, the Bi-Xenon's begin to flicker and then turn off. Also the Headlight adjusters do not work and the lights are currently on the ground.

I purchased these off of eBay and they came with adapters (10pins to 14pins), however, when i took the tape off of it, i noticed that there were wires joined in all different patterns. After doing some research (on Ross Tech Forum), some of the pin arrangements were in the right place (I just did not trust the shabby cut and join work on the harness) but just to be safe I'm considering getting these off kufatec:-

https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/volk...d-headlights-adapter-vw-jetta-5c-vw-sharan-7n

But To Note: The original harness coming from the vehicle (10pins) currently has 9pins in use and one vacant (Just in the event that this may add in the adapter decision)

Summery of what works and what doesn't:-

So with the Bi-Xenon's installed, i currently have the following:-

Loads of Errors on the Dash
Light Error Indicator on
No DRL Lights
Bi-Xenon Flickering and Cuts off
Height Adjusters not functional
Left light makes a "Motor Moving type sound" every time the light turns on
Indicator works
Turn assist does not function on the headlights

What I Purchased and Questioning:-

I today purchased a VCDS® HEX-V2® Enthusiast USB Interface from Ross Tech
I'm thinking about purchasing the Adapter/Converter Cable from kufatec but I'm looking for some advise on this before purchasing.

https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/volkswagen/jetta/5c/xenon-hid-headlights-adapter-vw-jetta-5c-vw-sharan-7n

This harness Wires into the CECM at terminal 48 & 49. I've read that some persons who did this conversion, stated that they required to do this in order to get the DRLs working.

Assistance required:-

At this point, i really need some assistance in the following:-

Would the 10Pin to 14Pin cable be required for the correct functioning of the Xenon Headlights?
How can I resolve the Flickering and turning off issue with the Bi-Xenon?
How can i get the DRL's Working?
How can i get the Headlight Height adjusters working?
How do I code the CECM to remove these errors from the dash and have the lights working as they should?

I haven't received the Bi-Xenon 10pin to 14pin Adapter Cable yet. (The shipping has been rescheduled....sigh)

I did perform two changes and the headlight are not flickering anymore...

I Enabled "Bi-Xenon Headlights (with Shutter) Installed", in the Byte 14 - (This stopped the Flickering)
AND
I Enabled "High Beam via Shutter active/installed", in the Byte 25 (Tried this, but the high beam only works when the lights are on, but i cant flash the lights when the headlights are off.

Will install and try some more coding then. don't want to try much with these Adapters since they maybe wired incorrectly.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Kind regards,
Vapor.Rob

Would the 10Pin to 14Pin cable be required for the correct functioning of the Xenon Headlights?
>> yes

How can I resolve the Flickering and turning off issue with the Bi-Xenon?
>> correct coding combined with correct BCM

How can i get the DRL's Working?
>> correct coding combined with correct BCM

How can i get the Headlight Height adjusters working?
>> Install module 55 Xenon Range and wire it all up

How do I code the CECM to remove these errors from the dash and have the lights working as they should?
Byte 11 --> bit 2 = 0, bit 7 = 1
Byte 15 --> bit 3, 6, 7 = 1
Byte 18 --> HEX 04
Byte 24 --> bit 7 = 1 / Value set for DRL brightness to 100%
Byte 25 --> bit 6 = 0
Byte 26 --> bit 3 = 1
Byte 27 --> bit 2 = 1

Xenon range: install and wire module, install and wire AFS sensor, enable address 55 in gateway, go to 55, basic settings, enter 1446940.
Leveling headlights: go to 55, basic settings, adaptation, select ON/Off, wait for the calibration

Hey iichel,

Thanks soo much for responding. This some useful information. Ok so i will try these and provide feedback. But can i use the lights without the automatic leveling system?

Thanks

i suppose you could, but a better question maybe whether you should.
often it's required simply by regulation. and it's better not to blind people with HID headlights.

Honestly i would prefer the automatic leveling but at the moment the cost is a bit high. So i wanted to get these lights working and then retro fit the auto leveling afterwards. Once i can use the leveling adjuster inside the car from the halogens i should be ok for the while. as for the regulations, were i live, there's currently no regulations on HIDs. its so bad, that you would not get a ticket for driving with hids but you would get a ticket for driving with your foglamps on

it's not possible to use the manual headlight adjuster in the car with original HID headlights.
I'm not sure how expensive OEM HID's are and if you're going through the effort and expense of fitting OEM HID's, the AFS system is only a small in relation, both in cost and in effort.

and driving with your fogs on, in bright daylight makes you look like a 16 year old.
and driving with your fogs on, in darkness, makes you an idiot. i'm quite OK with people getting fines for this.

well it is what it is, but tell me, the lights would not raise to the correct level unless i install the automatic leveling? because at the moment they're on the ground....

Hey everyone,

so I got the Adapter from kufatec today, and i'm in a little more trouble. So i installed them, the light were exactly as they were before, (beams on the ground, no drl, or high beam flash with control).

I tired the byte adjustments above and it didnt change the behavour of the lights, however, my rear lights are really dim and the reverse light turns on when i turn the switch on.

I put the Byte 18 back to the original setting which is "00 Lighting: Standard/Parameter Settings (EEPROM) which did not help.

I also revert all the other setting back to its original settings and i am still having the problem with the reverse light being on and the dim rear park lights.

Any assistance on how i can get this fixed? seems like im grounded for the evening....

Update: so I went back into the byte18 and changed the value to "Jetta - RoW" and I was able to get things back to normal.

But I still can't get the DRLs working, headlight height adjuster or the high beam flash. Any suggestions....

Per a PM from the OP: Hex 8C Jetta (162/VW361) Rest if Word (ROW) fixed up the Byte 18 problem. That may be valuable to someone with a RoW 162 chassis sedan that needs to get factory functions re-enabled.

I agree with iichel here. Installing a 55-Xenon range module is a requirement for assistance from us directly .. but more importantly having a fully functional AFS system is a much better driving experience and safer for all oncoming traffic. The conventional short coding he provided (1446940) would apply to the older CAN protocol 55 type. We have that Software Part Numbers 5M0-907-357 through 5M0-907-357-D split shown on this page: VW Golf (1K) Headlight Aim Control (Xenon with AFS)

Software Part Numbers 5M0-907-357-E and above are the newer UDS type. What we see frequently is new UDS modules sourced from 3rd party suppliers that have No End of Line Programming DTCs which prevent coding and Basic Settings. For that reason I would try to retrofit the complete system from an older CAN setup if possible.

Next, factory installed BCMs with part numbers other than ?K0-937-087-?? (i.e.087) rarely have the terminals inside the controller for proper high beam shutter activation. There are some exceptions to that rule .. but they are rare.

This may not be the most up to date revision but PL24 shows this BCM as the direct replacement by VIN: 5K0-937-087-R/ZHB

So, if you wanted to install a BCM that was guaranteed compatible with this vehicle and install all of the components required for a factory-like AFS system I would double check to make sure that number is the latest version and install the higher end BCM. You would still have to iron out the AFS details after a 55 module is installed and communicating.

Hey Dana,

Thanks for this information. I am currently looking into acquiring the wiring and modules required for the Automatic Leveling systems. I will work on this as soon as I acquire it. Thanks for this, so my headlight level would be pending until i acquire this.

As for the CECM, i spoke to a friend in the UK with a VW bearing the same CECM who was able to get their headlights fully functional.

I used some information they supplied me and was able to get my high beam flash working. using the following code "08000A3A802DE1C040880080100089640304000850808960E4 8400000040"

However, the DRLs arent working still. I was able to get them on for a few seconds by disabling the "LED-Daytime Running Light (DRL) Module for Parking/Position Light & Daytime Running Light (DRL)" and saving (the DRLs came on for a second and then came off)

Would you be able to advise me onto what codes i can look into to get the DRLs working?

Thanks

No problem. One exception to the 087 BCM rule is my own 2012 Tiggys SEL that was born with a 086 BCM: WVGBV7AX1CW000438 The Xenon Headlights with LED DRLs (facelift in 2012) were factory installed so it is possible your BCM may have the proper terminals in it. I didn't want to give you false hope but someone else reporting success with the same BCM is optimistic.

Please post the resulting scan with that coding entered including any fault codes that set after operation of the lights.

I totally understand.

With the codes given, most of the faults were gone. I'm left with two pairs:-

Seeing as it is a bulb fault thats popping up, i’m pretty sure the BCM is not aware of the fact you installed LED DRL’s. I’d focus my attention on that.

Fault in coding, fault in adaptations and/or wrong module are all still on the table.

I agree with Tommy here. I would have expected coding such as this example to work:
Code:
08000A3A803FE1C040880080100089640304000850808960E48400040040

You might want to make sure those headlights are equipped with LED DRL modules and then see which TFL/DRL terminals at the BCM connect to the factory side of the car harness to see if power is getting there. If the DRL power is present on the car side harness (with coding similar to my above example and handbrake off) but not at the headlight connector after the 3rd party adapter you may need to move wires in the adapter.

Double check the factory level wiring diagrams for a Jetta in your market with LED DRLs but I think terminal 12 at each lamp is a blue/yellow trace wire. Assuming that applies to your car the BCM terminal positions should be T52a/7 and T52a/8 meaning terminals 7 and 8 in the "A" (black) main BCM connector.

So i've reviewed the points here and i believe we're on to something. The My vehicle is a Euro Spec jetta. The OEM Bi Xenons i've got are US Spec Lights.

I've noticed from the adapter I got there are about 3 pins that are not covered on the headlights. Let me confirm what are working:-

1) Both Indicators
2) Both Low Beams
3) Both High Beams Via Shutter
4) Both Shutter Works
5) Both High Beam Flash when lights are on
6) Both Headlight Level Motors sounds when the car turns on (due to no AFS - Pending Install)

What doesn't work (as we know) are the DRLs

I am unable to get wiring diagrams for my vehicle after looking everywhere, i was hoping someone would be able to tell me which pins on the headlights are for which function since I am unable to get this info anywhere at the moment. I'm really hoping someone can guide me with the possible pins that may require moving to get these DRLs working.

So for reference:-

This is the 10 Pin Connector on my car

OK, I'm guessing that blue/yellow trace wire on the car side (which appears to be in terminal #4 of the 10 pin) is the DRL wire. To confirm I'd get an old-school incandescent test light, ground the test light to earth, stretch the VCDS laptop under the hood with the key on and handbrake off, prop the test light probe into that pin, connect to 09 and clear DTCs. If the test light bulb lights and you don't get a reoccurring DTC for whichever side of the car you are testing at that point you can confirm the wire is correct.

You may be able to use a LED test light or a DVOM but I'm not sure what the BCM wants to see for a current draw before it flags a DTC and decides to stop sending power to the ckt.

Either way, put the handbrake on and make sure power goes away.

If we confirmed the proper terminal the next thing to do is see if that adapter happens to connect it to terminal 12 (T14r/12) on the headlight side or not. That should be the proper NAR pin. You may be able to use erWin VW RoW to obtain NAR wiring diagrams but if not I'd search RoW repair info for something close to this name:

Headlamps Bixenon HID with range control, cornering lamp, LED daytime running lamps , (8IM)
from June 2012
which was diag No. 97

We need to tread very lightly to avoid copyright police but this is a small snip from J519 to J861: http://ft.trillian.im/7a467daf2651281430c9375002268189594cfb6d/6WRjtqc92Qq3mvs83F3077d1gWBQi.jpg

Hey Dana,

Your a God sent, thank you for this info. This saved me a lot of effort because i was just about to test each pin with my DVOM and do up an excel spread sheet with the info.

As soon as i get back in, i will follow these instructions to check for power from the vehicle side and then i will check on the harness side for Terminal 12 as suggested.

I will provide updates on this as soon as i try these.

Thanks Dear

Hey Dana,

So I tried the suggestion and here's the results.

Still no DRLs...sigh

I checked the #4 pin on the car harness and well there's power (12.01v) when the switch is off, and no power when the parking lights are on or headlights so I confirm that this is indeed the DRL Connection.

I checked additionally and there's constant power on pin #1 (12.01v) and on pin 2 (10.0v)

When the switch is placed in the Parking light position, there's 12,01v at pin 10

I've just checked the Kufatec adapter and the #4 Terminal on the 10 pin side is indeed connected to the #12 Terminal on the 14pin side....

Its either something is wrong with these lights or there's another pin responsible for the DRLs....sigh
On the headlight side however, I tried connecting pin 4 on car side to pin 12 on the headlight side, and there's no DRL and the same with pin 14 on the headlight side.

I did some reading and i'm understanding that some persons who weren't able to get their DRLs working, wired Terminal #13 to the BCM. In the Diagram, I am seeing a connection to the to Terminal #13 (T14r/13). Do you think this might be necessary?
