I'm not sure where this should be posted - "General Repairs" seems a good starting place, perhaps.

So - I was recently given a car radio by a friend together with the request "I want to use this as a garage radio". The device is the ubiquitous RCD 310, which I understand was installed on a number of earlier Golfs and the Polo 6R (as well as other models - I'm guessing).

The stickers on the radio say:

VW - 1k0 035 186 AA
BP - 7 647 201 360
FD 49
HW 012
SW 0029

BLAUPUNKT BMBH
815 7 647 201 360
VWZ1Z2H5885605 (serial number?)

VW Radio LOW EU BVX

I found an old 12 Volt. 2.3 Amp "cube supply" in my junk box and I even found a Fakra-to-DIN aerial connector which helped enormously.

So -everything works OK except that the damn thing keeps wanting to go into sleep mode and the radio turns itself off after a period. Of course as a stand alone unit, there are no CAN messages reaching the radio. or being sent.

My question - can anyone think of an easy way of killing the sleep function on a RCD 310?

Not sure you can code out the sleep function?

What about a Can bus simulator (Ebay)
DGMotors: Many thanks for the suggestion - I wasn't aware of this product! Based on your link (which alas wasn't too "Antipodes- friendly"), I managed to find a lower priced delivered unit from China. But your advice was valuable

No worries.

Had the same problem myself and that was the simplest and cheapest way round the problem.
