Some final thoughts...
My final thoughts on this are:
I think some people looking into VWs, and in general the North American Region () should know. VW has no reason to manufacture or provide the PQ35 platform for , or provide more options. Even with the advent of the changes for the 2015 TDi, its still the low end PQ25, this is no matter how you look at it. Having gone through rewiring the , and having much experience with parameterized manufacturing, I can tell you that they will continue to do this and have. They don't respond to the market in , they only respond to what the factory can produce at the lowest cost. This is then marketed as such to , and everyone thinks its a great vehicle. Lots has changed since 10 years ago, but mainly its that VW doesn't care.
Some things to know, the Passat in is the Jetta GLi. Both are now inheriting VW Polo electronics. Main recent change is that the door control modules in the 2015s on the rear doors are the VW polo type from the regular Jetta. As a consequence, the center console rear door lock switch button on the GLi is missing. This is just one example, that if they add something in the vehicle in one way, then they take away somewhere else. The list goes on and on. This wasn't done in the past. They used to produce a great bottom line vehicle with options to choose from.
On the 2015s, some plastic trim pieces have been removed, this is to cover the advent of modification and difference in trim. It really sucks that they don't give you more like they used to. Its the same design, just readjusted, keeping the overhead cost the same for VW.
Another example is that the PQ25 harness is actually heavier than the PQ35. They use more copper, to produce a lower end model. Why would someone do this lol? Well, welcome to parametrization in design, where you tweak knobs to meet the same or lower bottom line in expenses.
Also, don't be fooled by their warranty system. They don't care about the customer, the whole system is designed to feed information to them and not to the customer. They want your feedback and your information. You will be asked to send emails, but you will never receive any back. This is not to produce a better product, but to cut costs more in manufacturing based on the complaints they receive. No complaints, well lets cut more.
Overall, its just sad what they do and why they do it. I wanted to mention that this not a rant, but rather a statement of what I have seen and witnessed with VW mainly with the Mk6 platform.
They have a long way to go, to restore their reputation to what it used to be.
