Hi All
I recently bought a used 07 Touareg, sight unseen from an auction. I knew I was taking a chance, but was out of the country at the time and was willing to take the risk because it had the right spec. I was a 3.0 V6 diesel, with air suspension and the light coloured Nappa Leather (I hate black interiors), with low kms (83,000). And looked clean except for a small scrape on the front right corner - just the paint, will be easily fixed if I bother.
I will be using it offroad including for towing my offroad camper trailer through the outback here in Australia. On the way back to home I bought a VCDS from Mount Performance in Sydney (thanks Ben for the good service and advice). Essential, I think, given where I will be travelling and the fact I don't want to pay the large servicing costs of the VW dealer here. I am not a mechanic, but I have mucked about with cars since I was young, and I also own a '78 Jaguar XJ-S, so it is hard to frighten me with anything automotive!
Anyway, while driving back from Melbourne, the engine light came on. I took a risk and kept driving, as the vehicle was running fine. So once I got home I connected up the VCDS and recorded the following fault.
1 Fault Found:
012597 - Intake Manifold Runner Control
P3135 - 001 - Lower Stop not Reached - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100001
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 38
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 136240 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2017.01.05
Time: 11:11:14
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 1008 /min
Torque: 39.0 Nm
Speed: 0.0 km/h
Voltage: 12.08 V
Duty Cycle: 88.8 %
Duty Cycle: 80.9 %
Duty Cycle: 80.9 %
Readiness: 0 1 0 0 0
I couldn't find the P3135 fault number in the Wiki, but examining the adjacent 3137 and 8 faults, they seemed to be related - wear in the plastic stepper motor rods being the potential culprits. I then searched varied VW/Audi forums and came up with some other suggestions - check fuse 12 in the plenum fuse box, check wiring and connector to the stepper motor. Also to move the arms manually and see if they are sticking - which one might have been. Be careful not to dislodge the lower end socket off the ball as I did - its a bugger to get back on.
Anyway, I did these, and then cleared the fault codes, started the engine and hooray! No fault - it used to reappear after just a few throttle movements - and it hasn't come back after two days of decent driving. I also added some Wynns diesel engine system cleaner - no idea if this stuff has any benefit, but gave it a try.
I assume the 0001 after the fault code refers to the engine bank, but which bank is one? The left or right, as you look at the engine.
Hope this info is of use to someone. And the fault doesn't reappear.
Otherwise, car is great, has a cheap older Chinese replacement satnav without a CANBUS module, poor quality and throws a fault. Will probably replace with a new one with the module and better quality/useability/interfacing.
