As per title, how do I reset or actuate the turbo wastegate electronic servo actuator?

Car is a 1.4lt TSI CHPA engine Euro spec 2014/2015 model.

Reason is that these stick as the pivot joint between the turbo & actuator rod is to tight, so I undid mine & wet sanded it clean (2000grit & oil) & regressed using 1000C brake pad (Mintex Ceratec) grease.

I wish to fully activate from one end to the other the rod/servo etc., & get it to find the end stops as there is no external adjustment. I have had a look under basic measuring etc. in the Engine module but nothing stood out.

I have done this before ages ago on this car but the descriptions were different then in VCDS & I have lost the procedure..& I have googled & still can't find anything!!..arrgghh!!!

Can you please post scan data from the ECU so we can see what ASAM data it uses?

The following Basic Settings are available:

IDE04304: First adaptation of charge pressure actuator
IDE05192: Test for replacing turbocharger servo-motor
IDE03869: Test charge pressure actuator
IDE00457: Turbocharger test

However, I am not sure which of these is applicable to your situation, nor have I found an Output Test for that actuator.

I had noticed those...as the turbo is not a VVT (I think) I think some won't apply...

I take it no harm in trying all?..

Still the same engine off, ignition on & 1 minute reset time per test as previous???

Hi just angry with myself for losing the data I had previously.

Anyway FOUND some of the info here in this thread which I had posted in....

http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?p=431591

when the pivot really sticks it throws up fault codes & mainly the P334B one...& notice its called "Charge Pressure Control Actuator"

So the first & third items in your list have the correct descriptions...& I recon the first one is to re-learn the settings....

Okay, if you want to test.
You should get access to erwin, for more instructions for the wastegate.

This is normally used for, new turbo installed, new wastegate actuator, ECU exchanged!
I have not tested it on a car.

I think on a CHPA 103 kW engine, there is no nut on the wastegate rod.
It should be possible with nut, as spare part when exchanged ?

You must use VCDS 17.8.0
Copy this file to \Ross-Tech\Labels\User
Copy this file where you easy can find it to load in Advanced measurement values (and basic settings)
Use the load menu in [Adv. Meas. Values].

1)
First try if [Output test-03] can be done without [Security Access-16]!
If not, try the shown SA
And then try [Output test-03] again.
Please report back!
If it is needed (I think so), it must also be used before [Basic Settings-04]

Use [Load selection from file] CHPA-Turbo.u01

2)

  • SA (if needed)
  • [Basic Settings-04]
  • Ignition ON / Engine OFF
  • Wastegate rod, running easy/smooth
  • Use SA, if found out it was needed in Output test
  • [Basic Settings-04]
  • "Test for replacing turbocharger servo-motor"
  • Rod should go to minimum position (with 10% of max. force)
  • Turn nut so IDE04303 show 3310...3510 mV
After this min and max positions should be saved in ECU.

If IDE04303 not within spec. voltage, do this:

  • SA
  • [Basic Settings-04]
  • "First adaptation of charge pressure actuator"
  • Check: IDE03934
  • Check: IDE04302 (Send value of this here, Bit 5 should be active!)
  • IDE04303 show 3310...3510 mV

If there are problems, please make screen shots.

The CHPA engine has NO adjustment on the wastegate actuator rod, no nuts, etc.

Your test I have come across before for adjustment where there is a nut...I have no nut.

I noticed when I re-fitted the actuator that it initially would not fit as the rod had gone back into the servo unit by 2mm, re-connected the electrical plug to servo & ignition on & rod came out 2mm to exact length to enable re-fitment of unit.

Every time I switch the ignition on I hear the servo click on so I think it does a quick test each time.?

I have looked at Erwin & not found much ...basically swap out & I think I saw something re their machine to test...but VCDS is different. I have looked at various mechanics blogs on drive2.com etc about this CHPA actuator & there appears to not be any requirement for any test etc..

I just want to make 100% certain that's all as I like my cars in tip top condition..

Hey Dave are you sure the part # is correct being used?

Yes.

I had the part off & that's what was written down the side on the black plastic cover...I have a photo, but as photo bucket wanting money for accounts I don't have image hosting as no FB/Insta/twitter etc...

Oh so the part which was prior installed maybe could be wrong since you read it off of it......?

I just have to ask because I have no JPPSG data to go on.

You're getting your knickers in a twist...

I have not replaced an old duff part with a new part...I have removed the factory OEM part to clean the pivot which sticks solid & refitted the same OEM part...

Nope my knickers are fine with suspenders for my belly, just showing you and others that information is limited when it is limited upon being disseminated........

If more info was there with a scan and VIN, I could of looked it up.........pardon me for being an asshole that cares.

Right I carried out your test (did not ask for SA) & it does not move the actuator & the results are:-

Address 01: Engine (04E 906 016 F)

11:59:33
IDE00322 Status of basic setting is running
IDE03932 Charge pressure actuator: specified position 26.65 %
IDE03934 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for lower stop 3398.2 mV
IDE03935 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for upper stop 128.2 mV
IDE04302-ENG104207 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 0 0
IDE04302-ENG102612 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 16 0
IDE04302-ENG101717 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 24 55
IDE04302-ENG101796 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 8 2
IDE04303 Bypass valve for high press turboch turbine inlet: uncond volt 3368.6 mV

I carried out the IDE03869 Test for charge pressure actuator. This moved the actuator rod back & forth.

Address 01: Engine (04E 906 016 F)

11:52:15
IDE00322 Status of basic setting was not yet started
IDE03932 Charge pressure actuator: specified position 26.56 %
IDE03934 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for lower stop 3401.0 mV
IDE03935 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for upper stop 131.0 mV
IDE04302-ENG104207 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 0 0
IDE04302-ENG102612 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 16 0
IDE04302-ENG101717 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 24 55
IDE04302-ENG101796 Bypass valve for high press turbocharger turbine inlet: status-Bit 8 2
IDE04303 Bypass valve for high press turboch turbine inlet: uncond volt 1248.8 mV

I should have got the cycling results anyway this test moves the rod, results look within tolerances, so the servo actuator is self adjusting by the looks of if, but in the long term it may suffer the hall sensor problems of the version fitted to the 1.2lt engines which has solved with a shim to a TSB notice.

Anyway spoke to Loctite technical (UK) about high temp grease....yep the 1000C ain't enough & usually has petroleum & silicon stuff in, to really withstand you need graphite & calcium based 1300+C stuff..their LB-8009...so the next time it happens I'll be using this stuff.

Yup and without a VIN #

Uwe didn't ask for it, only the data set from engine ecu to determine what testing could be done, & as I have not replaced the part, just carrying out preventative maintenance & the OEM part is correct from the factory I fail to see what the VIN No. will do.

Anyway knock yourself out & surprise me;- WVWZZZAUZFP552995
