I got my first ride in a Tesla yesterday. It cost me 38,- Euros from the hotel we were staying in to the airport.

It was a 75D. The guy driving it says he charges it once a day, yielding 300-some kilometers of real-world range, which is entirely sufficient for a typical day. It had a bit over 75,000 km on it total.

Well, 20 work-days / 24 days after dropping it off, I got the Model 3 back.

I dropped it off on August 24th, and by August 30th (4 business days) they'd ordered all the parts, but had gotten word that 2 pieces were backordered with an estimated 21 day wait. Ugh....

Still, every few days I called them or they called me with updates. This past weekend I could see that the car was all closed up and being charged - so that seemed positive. Got the call yesterday and went to pick it up.

Front bumper was replaced, repainted:

Bad pics of the rear - car is dirty, lighting is bad:

Everything looks good, car smells like paint - but I'll air it out if the rain ever stops. Now... time to schedule RTHQ visit again?

pre-emptive question, but will a hex-net run on it ?!?!
I cannot provide iron-clad guarantees at this time, but I expect the answer will be an affirmative one.

passim stopped by today and gave me a chance to drive (and ride as a passenger) in his model 3. It lived up to the hype. Accelerating from a stop on dry pavement is very strong for a RWD car on all season tires. Where it really shines is from say 30-50 where it throws you back into the seat quite abruptly. I got used to the center screen pretty quickly but stuff like the momentary switch turn signals took longer for me to remember. A little hard to see but my e-tron charger says "Plugged and Charging":

Eric tried to scan it with VCDS but had nowhere to plug in. :)

It drove pretty much like a normal car and I'm used to EV driving but it was still weird not having a conventional transmission selector lever, no kickdown button on the accelerator pedal, no parking brake button, etc. Anyway, the kool-aid tastes pretty not-bad. :)

I'm confused. I though Teslas had a proprietary charging port?

The car comes with an adapter to plug into any J1772 plug, typical on just about every Level 2 charger around. I use it daily to leech from the subsidized charger at my office that charges about 1.2 cents a mile... 4.8 cents a kWh Compared to 14 cents at home.

(Also, my home charger is 2x as fast)

Electric cars cast growing shadow on profits -- Reuters

Electric cars still cost 7,800 euros more to produce on average than conventional ones, AlixPartners calculates. Plug-in hybrids - which combine a smaller rechargeable battery with a combustion engine - overshoot by 5,000 euros.

When that cost gap is reflected in the price, few are sold.

“It absolutely is impacting the profitability of the industry,” said Rebecca Lindland, a senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book, which tracks vehicle pricing. “Demand doesn’t justify investment at all - it’s all regulation.”

Tesla may not be the only company that can't make a profit on these things.
