This:

JayEmm understands that there are use-cases for which EVs make sense and others for which they don't.

Other than not being able to use the bed, this might almost be Uwe-approved. :)

LOL -- I could put enough auxiliary tankage in the bed of my diesel truck (while still able to close the toneau cover) that it could do the whole Cannonball without ever stopping for fuel. Stock tank: 33 gallons. An extra 100 would do the trick at 20 mpg, and I normally get 27.

However, to set a (diesel) record, I'd have to average a bit over 104 mph, and I'm not sure what the consumption would be at that speed. Better make it 150 gallons. Three 55 gallon drums, on their sides, in a wood frame -- dirty deeds, done dirt cheap.

Tesla is ending production of the Model S and X in Q2 of 2026.

The Model S is that car that made people want EVs. I've never owned an EV, but somehow this makes me sad.

The Model S is far nicer than the Model 3 and Y. If I were to get an EV (and a Tesla on top of that...) the Model S is the only one I would have considered. Tesla is making a huge mistake getting rid of them - what they needed to do was drop the price. They could have slashed $15k off the sticker of the Model S and still made a good profit on each unit sold.
