Hi just wondering if anyone has had problems with low oil pressure warning message lighting up when driving on this model. No particular set of circumstances cause the problem, one day owner can drive 100 miles without problem next day comes on after a mile. Does not stay on, maybe 5-10 seconds then turns off again. Engine rpm seems to have no influence on the problem.

I have tested with gauge and the pressure is within tolerances. I have changed the pressure sensor just as a precaution, no change. I'm 99% sure that it is not the blocked oil suction pipe problem that can occur with these engines as the oil pressure comes up instantly from start-up hot or cold. Suction pipe problem usually causes top end noise on start and a slow pressure build-up.

If I am understanding correctly the instrument panel does not respond to the sensor signal below 1500rpm and this checks out with vcds.

Yes sir that is it and the sludge which goes with it........

The whole basket with shafts and pump.
Also be sure to check the relief valve in pump and the oil filter control PSI valve housing.

Why is the engine controller missing from the scan?

Just to add . . .

- Silly question, is the oil level and type correct, also OEM type filter? - just wanted to make sure... ;)

I have tested with gauge and the pressure is within tolerances.

- So what were the readings? 1.2 to 1.6 bar is what the Factory Repair Manual says about the oil pressure switch activating when the engine starts and idles up...
and at 2,000 rpm, engine oil temp 80°C the pressure should read 2.7 to 4.5 bar.

If I am understanding correctly the instrument panel does not respond to the sensor signal below 1500rpm and this checks out with vcds.

- Have a look at the MVB group 001, field 3 in the 17-Instruruments, this is the result of the oil pressure switch, as seen by the controller.
- It is possible there is a wiring issue, from pressure switch to the cluster that could cause such a condition..
- Remember, this is a oil pressure switch, so it is off or on, it does not read varying pressure and it should switch at 1.4bar.

Hope this helps,

drpeter
