I've recently bought an '02 Jetta wagon and both remotes do not work. I've got the Vag-com and have ran thru the adaptation to clear all old remotes and the tried to program the remotes, with the Help from Peter at Ross-tech, we felt pretty sure that my remotes were bad.I went tru all the steps to clear and program the remotes and about 1 out of 10 times i press a remote button the car would "beep" but they still wouldn't work.
I can go to measuring block 014 and about 1 in 10 times i could "see" the remotes, but not everytime i would press a button.
So i bought 2 new OEM remotes and when i go to program them i get the exact results as my old remotes! about 1 in every 10 time i hit a button i can "see" them in measuring block 014! Strange.

Well, i am leaning more towards it being a bad CCM over it being bad remotes.

My questions are....

1. is the CCM module an expensive part to replace?
2. is it coded to the vehicle, and if so, can I code it to my vehicle with my Vag-com?
3. where would be the best place to get a replacement? The dealer can get me one for about 400$ I'm just not ready to spend that much for a part that im not convinced will correct my problem.

I'm hoping some of you VW guys might be able to help me or give me some honest advice.

Thanks,
Chris

Please post an auto-scan.........

Do the remotes have fresh batteries and are the contacts tight?
Are the pads in the remotes worn out?

I use a signal finder to check that remotes are at least broadcasting, however, not all use such a tool or have access to it.

How does the CCM look for visual inspection?
In some cases I have found adding an antenna for people, that requested it helped for getting further range.

I know this will sound stupid.........
Try and hold the remote under your chin and open your mouth while pressing the buttons, and observe the signal boost or range increase.

new remotes, new batteries, old remotes, new batteries, they are all transmitting good. I do not think its a remote issue, it seems that the CCM will only "listen" to the remotes randomly, it will acknowledge any of my remotes only very rarely.i have tested the remotes and they all transmit.
I'm wondering if the CCM is "vin specific"? or can I match the part numbers and get a replacement? and if so, where can I get one other than the dealer and how much trouble is it to "program" it to work with my vehicle?

The CCM is not VIN specific per se, but just the part number alone isn't enough to specify the correct one for your car; there's also an "Index" or "Color Code" that comes into play.

what will it take to get the correct one for my vehicle? and what is involved in Programing it or setting it up to work with my vehicle? any good places to get one besides the dealer? they want almost 400$ for one.

Junk yard maybe, you need to match this code(in red):

Address 46: Central Conv. Labels: 1C0-959-799.lbl
Part No: 1C0 959 799 B
Component: 27 Komfortgerát HLO 0003
Coding: 00259
Shop #: WSC 01271

When looking at this in ETKA, this would be index code 027, match this and part number and you're good to go. For coding, it is short coding so just copy-paste from old.

will that code be printed on the CCM or is only available when looking at it thru VCDS?

And is there any place other than dealer to get a "reman" or new CCM?
ETKA wants to charge me to "sign up" before I can use them.

Jack, can you give me an idea on a price with shipping? I can get all the info with my VCDS and maybe you could match one for me?

when you say "copy and paste from old one" what do you mean? I guess you would do that in "adaptation"?

No, you would do that in the Coding function but you'd be coping from the Auto-Scan that we would love to see ;) It will contain the Index/color code and the original soft coding.

Uwe, i have cleared that code hundreds of times and when i try to program keys, i will get a "beep" from vehicle, about once every ten times i push a remote button, then when i back out of adaptation and test the remote it will not work and i check codes and that code it back.
Its weird, i do exactly what you guys have said to program my remotes but it never works.
That is why im thinking i have a CCM issue.

Don't discredit the fact that the micro switches or harness in drivers door maybe faulty causing a failure of the marry process to program a remote or using the wrong type remotes.

It is best to clear all learned remotes and start fresh.......after a default of the CCM by recoding and power down.

Jack, what do you mean by recoding and powering down the CCM? do you mean unplugging it and basically clear the "soft coding" and then recoding it with the same coding? i think is "00258"

Although i don't question your info here, i have never had problem matching a remote when microswitch is bad.
When remote is wrong, than yes.

Could you please make a photo of your current remote P/N or write it here. Part number could be found, when splitting the key and remote, same as for battery change.
