I missed this because it was in the General VW/Audi Repair sub-forum but we determined via email that the incorrect ABS module is installed and that is directly responsible for the Powertrain Data Bus conflicts and false WSS fault.

There's a mechanical failure in the transmission that will manifest just like that. There's a one-way sprag clutch that normally carries power in 1st gear, but allows over-run so you don't have heavy engine braking with your foot off the throttle. It is locked/overridden when in Tiptronic shifting mode, or D2 on the Passat and I'm guessing Sport mode on your A4. When in one of those modes, you have a great deal more engine braking in 1st gear and that's why - no overrun allowed. If the sprag clutch fails and free-wheels in either direction, you'll get nowhere in normal Drive but the Tiptronic mode clutch override will mask the problem.

You can see the difference in VCDS, address 02 MVBs: in 1st gear, normal Drive will show gear "1" commanded whereas Tiptronic/D2/Sport will show "1M".

If you rev it high enough in Drive, there's a good possibility the TCM will notice the problem and throw you into 4th gear limp mode. You'll see the gearshift display in the cluster go blank/inverse, and you'll have an error code in the TCM. Also, you'll have quite a lurch so be careful and don't do it very often.

Move the noids to see if the condition moves..............and check them to see if they actually pull, not just click.

Did you install the correct ABS control module now? Please post up a fresh scan showing the current condition of the car.

The ABS module came straight from the dealer and I matched up the parts number with the Vin number..could it be the dash cluster? Cause the ABS light & the check engine light is on..

Also I had the ECM & TCM Disconncted for about 7 hours then I put a used ECM in used TCM in also and I only did this because when I got the car it was in limp mode and even with those used one's it did the same thing so I'm wondering if I need to get it reprogrammed?? And will that solve the problem. .

Have you cleared DTCs recently ?

I'd fix that 00285, check all the wiring, and find out what's causing the evap leak.

See the wiki for more info, and the factory repair manuals.

Color me confused, but is this not the exact same ABS module as in your original scan from a month ago, the module that was determined to be incorrect for the car?

i have spend the week going threw the wiring harness and the ABS speed sensor and all the wiring is good and no shorts are bad grounds still nothing..So i took the ABS speed sensor off and put in on my buddies A4 and it worked,Im just wondering if i need to have it reprogrammed are flashed because the ECU is used and so is the TCM so im just left playing a guessing game..
