Yesterday morning cold start, AirBag light came on and won't go off.
Car has never been in an accident.
Scan below. Tried clearing the code but no luck.

Can VCDS reset this module?

Searching, the forum, found a post about similar issue but different module. Called dealer
to find my controller part number is no longer avail. Parts guy wasn't sure but thought
part number with E was replaced by AM 002, which needs special order. No luck searching
online for either of these to find out if thats a correct replacement.

TIA for your help here.

Did you give the parts guy your VIN? What you have in there right now has Index 008, so I am a bit skeptical that an index 002 would be correct.

yes, the first thing the parts guy asked for was my VIN.

How did you determine it is "index 8"?

What if I find a used module with same part number but unknown internal code.
Can VCDS overwrite the used module with my code?

Also
Can I drive the car with the airbag module removed?

No. That's a question of the parameter set in the airbag module.

Moreover, due to liability concerns, Ross-Tech does not provide support for the installation of used airbag components (and installing used airbag components is actually illegal in a number of States).

Uhm, in much of Europe it's illegal to work on / repair airbag systems in cars without having a specific certification to do so.

I don't know whether such requirements exist in any of those countries, but even if they do, I doubt anyone there actually cares. :D

It doesn't really matter to me either. I'm simply explaining why Ross-Tech won't assist with such jobs. You see I have a strong aversion to spending money on lawyers, and given that the OP of this thread is in the USA, there is very much a question of liability.

Sharing my solution.
I found a repair service in UK. Seller on Ebay is

transelot-ecus

Shipping took a while...
Installed and my Airbag light behaves normal again; light goes out after engine starts!
VCDS says no faults!

If you have the skills, Youtube has some videos about repairing cold solder joints on these units.
Not sure if that was my issue but I can recommend Transelot.
