Hi
Car (for us known since several years) came in with no start, changed the pump and battery due to it beeing time for it.
Engine running again and noticed it run high at idle. Steady at 1200 rpm.
Was looking around in VCDS when suddenly the engine got the hickups, engine run unevenly and EPC light and MIL was lit.

P1553 Barometric / Manifold Pressure Signals - Implausible Correlation - Intermittent
P1504 Intake Air System - Leak detected

I checked the vacuum pipe from the brake booster - my earlier reinforcement still in place and working.
Checked with brake cleaner engine running and hot - nothing.
After that checked with smoke machine, hot engine - only place smoke comming out was the breather on EGR.

Two Auto Scans below. After the first one, I erased all codes. And when the engine whent into limb (sometimes the throttle answers, sometimes it doesnt) I read the codes again.
It would seem that P1553 comes first and not always with P1504.
When I put any load on the engine - it starts to run unevenly.

I would be very thankfull for any ideas to where to go. Should not the fault code be pointing at the MAP sensor itself, rather than to the signals, if the MAP sensor was foulty?

Should not the fault code be pointing at the MAP sensor itself, rather than to the signals, if the MAP sensor was foulty?
It depends in what way the sensor is faulty. For example MAF sensors from the early 2000s often failed in a way that they under-reported air flow. This would manifest in fuel trims that went out-of-spec, but the reported airflow was never so far away from reality that the ECU would decide that the MAF sensor itself was faulty.

On this ECU, intake manifold pressure can be seen in MVB 002.4 or 003.2 as well as several others. However, I'm not finding anywhere that barometric (ambient atmospheric) pressure is reported. Still, I would take a look at what is happening with manifold pressure to see whether the values are realistic.

Have you rechecked and try to twist around the hose from brake booster to the gallery ?

So, in between the sweat attacs in the tripical heat - I have tried:
To twist the pipe connection to the brake booster. Nothing.
I have checked the atmospheric pressure at key on engine off: 999,6-1001 mbar (fluctuates a bit)
At idle around ~450 mbar
Rev the ingine <450 mbar, for ex at 2600 rpm its 250 mbar.
I cannot see anything happening.

A question. Does some one know how much is there supposed to be getting air in through the filter at the EGR valve? Part number 037133843A
Could that be letting in too much air?
That was the only part where smoke was getting (pouring) out.

Found the culprit.
Cylinder 2 valve guides or oil rings sticking.
I dont know why I didnt react when I did yet an other smoke test (indoors this time). Smoke was coming out of the one way valve on the oil filler neck. Just pinched it and didnt react. Idiot!
But when I did a cylinder leak down test it was obvious.

This car is not worth putting any money on. Its time for timing and aux belts with all all the tensioners. So its going to be scrapped.

Before you scrap it, remove and clean the throttle body and then reset it in Basic settings 060 after clearing the adaptations.

Done that, Crasher. Also cleaned EGR and checked everything. Changed the MAP sensor. And checked the timing. Both tensioners were way out of specs. But the timing was correct. At least its now. I found this in my search:
After I have had compressed air in the engine (I didnt go all the way up with the air, didnt need. The air was heard clearly coming out from the oil filler when I tested leak down test on cyl 2: on cold engine!) - after that the engine run even worse.
Ill be taking throttle body as reservpart. As well everything else from the engine!
The owner has bought same engine Skoda Octavia from 2004. =) He just might have put a thought it that prughage.

1,4 Fsi Tfsi are shit!
It was by the way 8V he have bought. But Im still taking every part I can, from the Golf.
He was totally fooled by the company that sold it to him. The entire car was spray buttle painted, without clear coat. The pumber already loosing its paint.... He didnt see anything.
That is the reason we sometimes follow with our customes when they are buying a "new" car.
