HVAC control unit in dash not showing any lights or displays

But they work fine. 2005 Jetta MK5. Fan speed and temp change as I turn the knob but none of the lights in the knobs or buttons work and neither do the two small display screens. This just started recently.

These things have been known to fail like that - not super common, but I've seen it on forums several times.

For how cheap the control panel should be (used), it may be easier to buy a cheapo and try it anyway?

You need one for a heater with 2 re-circ motors (Generally, if it still has the ECON button, you should be fine. Later ones usually had the AC button instead and won't work correctly).

Since you have a fault that says, "Supply Voltage B+ -- Lower Limit Exceeded" I'll ask, did you load-test that wire?

Just because has 12V when it's unplugged from the module doesn't mean it can actually supply a the requisite amount of current.

Oh, and check your ground connection too.

Ok I'll check that under load. And which pin is ground? I assume it would also be the only other large one next to #20 but there is no mention of pin #19 although it IS a ground. I'll check under load too. And #17 is sensor ground and #14 in T16g is potentiometer ground. Check those too?

$35 at the junk yard. Thought I might open this one up first to see if there are any cold solder joints or burned components.
