hi.
-the issue i have is the automatic trans feels as if it has no power from take off ,like its in limp mode but i have no codes for it. jack has told me sometimes there will be no code. i have since changed the trans and computer that match still have same feeling as b4 the swap.
i know the trans has come from running car with no other known internal issues,i test drove it b4 i bought it. so i ask here for better clarification cause i dont want to deal on vortex....
i have an older log of the old trans before the swap i can post but again dont know how to do it correctly..but ill post it in code text?
any other assistance is appreciated--- rob.

it started acting funny on my trip to south carolina last summer, i was on the highway and wanted to pass someone, pressed the gas pedal the trans felt as if it down shifted but didnt and continued to stay in its 4th gear,i was only doing about 70 at the time

Hey Rob,

Logs look to me like a faulty ribbon strip for ATF temp sensor or wire harness back to ecu.

You even have negative values.

That part is replaceable in the trans as a separate part from the VB.

Thanks for your input jack.but it's still having the same problem after a trans and computer swap. I'll try and log same groups.on new trans this week....also will look at new ribbon this week as well . because I know it's a pretty common problem on these trans....any other groups or items I should look at?

I have had to change the wiring harness from the trans to the TCU before. Basically the only thing you didn't change.
Start at the TCU remove the ft. driver seat and take the whole harness that run to the trans.
The TCU plugs in at one end and the ribbon cable at the other end. They all run in a black harness about 1/2 inch wide.
Real pain to do!
Good Luck

It is advised to change the ribbon after verifying you have a proper connection from the VB strip to the ECU.

Logs mean nothing when temp of ATF can't be determined.

Note:

Battery acid likes to leak at the top of trans location/battery box and harness causing damage if the alternator is fubar In overcharge.

ok little up date and another question...

i have ohm checked the resistance at the ribbon connection on top of the transmission and have found that a couple readings are off at 68 deg.f..20 deg.c
solenoid1-66 ohm
sol.2- 82 ohm***
sol.3- 63 ohm
sol.4- 5 ohm
sol.5- 75 ohm***
sol.6- 5 ohm
sol.7- 127 ohm***
atf sensor- 212 k ohm
im using the specs from the 096 trans diag. i know it isnt the o1m specific.. so if there is another spec ill retest with that if i could receive such specs from anyone..
i have also tested the atf temp with harness connected from ribbon to tcu connector at pin 6 and 67,and had a slow climb in reading but was about 197 kohm

while inspecting the connector at the tcu under my rear seat. i noticed electrical tape that wasn't factory,so someone was in there. i peeled it back and have found a crimp connector with two wires coming out of it.. there is one wire harness side ,then the crimp conn. and two wires coming out to the tcu connector. the colors of the wires are a grey/green which go directly to pin 16 of the tcu connector, and the other wire comes from the crimp to pin 50 and is a blue wire..
is this supposed to be there?

Rob

The first thing you must do is get access to a proper repair manual.
www.erwin.vw.com

Then trace in WD all tracks to the TCM to see if this crimp is okay, and other specs you are looking for.

The fact that the ATF sensor is wandering in logs makes it A #1 suspect,.............that wire back to ecu must be checked.
Then you should watch the resistance value change in accordance with the repair manual during a warm-up transition.

Experience/history would tell me to say change the ribbon strip in trans first, as it is most likely faulty being sporadic.

ok well i signed up ,and i paid for a wiring diagram..where where would it be?

You search by model and year.

My advice would be to get ALL of the repair manuals for the vehicle downloaded while your subscription is active.

Edit: While you're in there, looks for any open campaigns by VIN and check all the TSB's.

Once you download the PDFs, you will have a list of files similar to this:

You won't see anything like that until you download the files.
That is a screen shot of them on my Mac.

It does make you re-login regularly in my experience, so try logging again.
Like everything else, it takes a bit of getting used to but you'll get the hang of erWin in no time :)

Im logged in... when I search it brings up a list of pdf files...Click on any one of them it brings me to the choose subscription list with the 3 options...I had already paid 35 once and it didn't show I down loaded anything

Sorry I mis-understood... it's $35 for 24 hours unlimited access.

Unfortunately I let my subscription lapse and am trying to justify spending another $1,000/yr just to help folks out, so I can't walk you through the menus at the moment.

I paid and was charged on my card for 35dollars. Which was a 24 hour sub.But when I do a guided search it brings a list under service information. And all files are listed just below the search box. I click on any group of pdfs. And it takes me directly to the pay for subscription screen...what I'm saying is i was charged once for a subscription. Of something ..How do I get to view what I supposedly paid for.and why does it continue to bring me to the pay for subscriptions when i have been charged once

Thank you for the screen shot - Guided Search is it, couldn't remember what it was called.

You're clicking on the link in the Contents column right ?
Strange it would take you to a properties page, and it shows you are already logged in...

Somewhere in there is shows you how long you have left (e.g. 23 hours...) but I don't recall where.

Try right clicking on the link under contents, and save as - that's normally what I do.
Otherwise I think it opens a pop-up window with some goofy online viewer.

If you can't get it, I'll go pay for a 24 hour and walk you through it.

I've tried the right click save as.and have searched all over the site.it doesn't show as I've bought anything.or have any info on past transaction or a time limit as you stated.ive also tried it on Internet Explorer and firefox.(when I worked for honda we had an ie based diagnoses program and would also give me a hard time if i used firefox).but still nothing. ... but it shows I've been charged the 35 on my credit card. Thank you for your help however no need to go and pay for something that you not using. Maybe I have to wait a while b4 it recognizes payment..I'm gonna head out to eat maybe when I get back it'll work. Or I'll just have to dispute the charge on my card

Strange - it usually is immediate when I buy it.

No worries - I need to update my stuff anyway - I do that a couple times a year.
Besides I enjoy helping other enthusiast so much it's what I do :)

Sounds like a plan - I've got a lasagna in the oven

Nah... call/email VAG and get it straightened out.
There isn't anything better than erWin.
And once you get it squared away you have access to everything ever made ;)

I'm sure it's great. As of now it's giving me a headache. Lol I can just track the wires using the Bentley no problem. But figured I'd give this a try...well enjoy the lasagna. Lol and if by chance you do decide to renew and it works for you.let me know .Thanks - rob

If you've already got a Bentley, you're going to get essentially the same information.

We typically point people to erWin as it's much more user friendly [I see you rolling your eyes LOL] and doesn't need to be 'installed' on XP.
erWin is the future of manuals and there won't be any new VAG versions from Bentley.

Enjoy your supper too :) Thanks- Jake
