2016 VW GTI - No rod data for 55-Xenon range

Hi everybody. I'm having trouble working with a friend's GTI, I'm getting an error for AFS function (everything is working ok, car does the statup procedure up down and to the sides) but then it shows a message about AFS not working.

When entering module 55 I'm getting a dialog stating there's no ROD data or something like that, and then the error is about a missing calibration. I can't enter 04-basic settings to adjust the xenons, which could solve the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm meeting with my friend again today and will test everything again. It's strange, I didn't see the error when working with the module (no ROD data message and no error data), but then I did one last auto-scan to post here and the error was there. I didn't realize I had the error until today when I opened the file, as I saved it without looking.

Here you can see the error I get via VCDS desktop. Also when I enter the module, fault codes, I get the unknown error / no rod data error (this was done about an hour ago):

The DS 39 update should address some of this for VCDS-Mobile.

As to the problem with VCDS, it looks like there's some confusion over the chassis type depending on whether VCDS has seen the VIN of the car or not. In other words, if you start VCDS and go directly to 55-Headlight Range, it looks for a different suffix file than if it knows or has seen the VIN (i.e. during an Auto-Scan). We have access to a very similar car that has the same Xenon setup and will see if we can reproduce this.

Thanks again. My main problem still is I can't do basic settings, via VCDS desktop or VCDS mobile, I see no options on the dropdown where there should be at least one option to reset or calibrate the system, to solve the missing calibration error, am I right about this?

Also my HEX NET is already on DS 10xxxx39, BL 0.27, CFB 0.10, FW 0.238 and CB 0.4305.

When I check for updates via VCDS mobile, it says up to date, but when using the HEX NET UTILITY I see "Updated rod data needed", and when I download updates is just hangs. I tried several PCs (WinXP, Win7, Win10):

I just checked on my 2015 GTI and going straight into 55-Xenons with a HEX-NET connected via USB using VCDS Release 15.7.4, it went right in and loaded the ROD data.

So is there a way the ROD data on my HEXNET got corrupted? Or when using VCDS on the desktop it doesn't matter? Maybe asociated with the problem I'm having with the message "Updated rod data needed" I get from the hexnet utility and can't seem to complete.

Any suggestions on what I could try?

I'll let others comment on the VCDS-Mobile side, but VCDS only needs the VIN from the HEX-NET. Whatever ROD data is in the hexnet is not relevant to VCDS on the PC. I would try again after giving the hexnet time to boot up and retrieve the VIN (maybe 30 seconds after you've connected to the DLC?), only then go directly to 55. Or try an autoscan first. Please let us know if the problem persists either way, because if that is the case I'd like to take a look at debug files to see why this is happening.

As you predicted the problem seems to be with the VIN. I tried three screnarios:

1) Start VCDS, go straight to 55 -> ROD ERROR and no basic settings.

2) Start VCDS, perform autoscan, then go straigth to 55 -> No ERROR and basic settings work OK.

3) Start VCDS, go to 1-Engine, Advanced ID (gets the VIN), then go to 55 -> No ERROR and basic settings work OK.

So whenever the VIN was read, the problem was not present.

Thanks everybody for your help, I was able to perform the basic settings and get rid of the error in the GTI.
