Original - Detailed - Autoscan

What is the best original detailed scan to perform after purchasing a used car? The autoscan on the modules is great. But I thought there was a more detailed method to scan and save for a rainy day.

Make control module maps at the same time.

Set Debug Level to 2 on the Options screen, then click [Apply] before runnint the Auto-Scan. Note the Debug Level is never saved, so you must do the Auto-Scan w/o exiting VCDS after setting this.

Also: Such a scan can take quite a while, so either use a beefy battery charger or do it with the engine running to avoid depleting the car's battery.

HEX-V2 interface for a MY17 Tiguan - 14 minutes (28 controllers).

Then for a car equipped with not so modern electronics - e.g. PQ25 based T6 Transporter - 28 minutes. The slow down mainly because of missing adaptation channels in some of the modules. There VCDS waits for a response for a second -- not long for a single one but as there are hundreds of them missing...

Anyways, yet another extremely useful function in the VCDS.

It very much depends on the car, i.e. the number and type of control modules installed. I've seen it take ~45 minutes on some cars. Non-UDS modules tend to be quite slow on Adaptation maps since VCDS has no choice but to try to read all 255 possible channels in those modules. The last one I did was on a 2018 Tiguan -- NAR, SEL Premium, 34 addresses showing in the Gateway Installation List, but they're all UDS). It took 18:12.

I Set Debug Level to 2 and ran the autoscan on a 2018 Audi A4 Allroad. The size of the scan was no different than a regular default auto scan. The size was 22.0 kb. Can that be possible or did I not do it correctly?

The size of the scan was no different than a regular default auto scan.

If done correctly, this generates separate map files for each control module; these will be located in your Logs sub-folder.

I went to the C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs on the PC and there were no logs stored. Would this be the folder location?

I see where the logs are and yes there are many. They are in the C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs folder. My mistake.
