VCDS Interface Not Found

Hi all,
First time posting so be gentle!

Got a cable and would appreciate help in getting this working.
Steps I have tried are;
Downloaded VCDS 20.4.2 software on Windows 7 (also tried this on a Windows 10 PC with the same results as below)
Connected cable, when pressing Options-Test I get the following message:

This is the USB driver that is shown as present on the laptop:

So I next tried installing the 32bit software on the 64bit System-still no change.
Finally I tried running the VCI Config but as the interface is not found it does not appear on the Interface dropdown menu.
Note: When the cable is connected to the laptop only and also to the car I have a single solid green light on the interface.

Please insert the photo cable You purchased or the serial number from label to make it easier to see where the problem is.

Unfortunately it was an internet purchase.
After looking into this from many posts how can I tell if it is genuine?

Can I post the serial number here?

Do you know if there are some pirated copies out there with something that looks like an actual serial number on the interface ? I saw one of those on an ads website and it made me wonder whether that was a copy or not.

Yes, there are some that have what looks like a real serial number.
