Can i change the frequency on the radio FM to uk as can not get FM
channels past 88khz ??? It has discovery Pro Nav Fitted (which the
navigation isn’t working ?)

The FM band in Japan is 76–90 MHz.

I'm sure the software on the Discovery Pro is intended for Japan, maye the software can be "changed" to get UK/European freqencies for the radio. I don't know if this is possible... I also think this has anything to do with navigation! Can you check in the menu of the radio if you receive any GPS-signals or not!

At a best guess you may well need a firmware update for the radio assuming it has the necessary hardware to support UK radio frequencies.

Airbag Faults
I'm not sure what your airbag faults are but there were a couple of other posts on this forum with the same errors. Unfortunately no-one came back with a resolution so the issues remained unanswered.

Headlight Range Fault
It looks like the car's headlights have been set to Tourist Mode / Travel Mode so it can be driven on the right without dazzling oncoming cars. When you turn the ignition on you should see the bulb fault indicator warning lamp in the instrument cluster flash on and of for a couple of seconds which is to remind you that Travel/Tourist Mode is switched on. On some models (the Skoda Octavia Mk2 for instance) this setting can be controlled from an option in the MFD so I would look there first in case it's on the Golf Mk7 too. In the Octavia MFD it's listed as "Travel Mode" under "Lights & Vision" and you can just tick or untick as required...

If there is no option in your MFD and assuming your label files have the required mappings then you should be able to set it back by following the guide in the following post (assuming the Mk7 Golf has the same or similar adaptation settings as the Mk6 Golf). You have nothing to lose by looking in the "55-Headlight Range" adaptation screen and seeing if you get the "Travel/Tourist Mode" option listed. If you do then you will obviously need to set the "New Value" to 0 to turn the Tourist Mode / Travel Mode back off...

Hopefully someone else can offer some advice on how to fix your other issues.

Yes I can get gps as I get a compass on the radio and in the clocks that shows me direction I'm travelling (North/south etc)

Thanks for the reply,

Who/where can I get firmware update please ??

I've go no airbag warnings etc so not sure if they are airbag faults ? The car is fitted with a DRSC unit in the glovebox with ETC on it ( it's something to do with electronic toll collection ) and the DRSC is some crash prevention thingy ??
When I first start the car I get a message in the dash display saying
'Proactive occupant protection not available ' ??? Not sure what this means !!

Will check the travel mode option thing tomorrow and see but my main concern is the radio/nav !!
Was looking at buying a second hand infotainment unit for discover pro but been told it won't work due to component protection??

Thanks for all info

Glenn

'Proactive occupant protection not available'
this message is telling you that the control module in the seat belts are not configured to the the central airbag ecu.
i came across this when i installed a used pair from a donor vehicle,
anyone with vas online or the dealer can do this for you..

It looks like there was a firmware update file floating around the web for the Discover Pro called DiscoverProFW200 but any links now appear to be dead so you will probably need to take a trip to the dealer and try to get them to attempt to do a firmware update for you. However, if the unit is specific to another region (Japan) then I guess there is still the possibility that it can't actually be updated with firmware for another region.

For Navigation maps you could try downloading and installing them from the navigation.com website. Again, if the unit is region specific then there may be issues trying to load on European maps. There is only one way to find out and that is to just try ans see what happens.

As for fitting a replacement UK / European spec Discover Pro unit, you could get the Component Protection removed by Q7 Audi Car Parts who are conveniently just down the road from you in Manchester (see this eBay listing). At £80 it's not cheap but it might end up being the only realistic option you have. If they are willing to remove Component Protection then maybe they would also be willing to attempt a firmware update on your existing unit instead for a fee. Certainly worth asking.

The airbag faults aren't for the airbags themselves but for the automatic seatbelt tensioners that fire in the event of a heavy impact. I may be wrong but I didn't think the failure of these brought up the airbag warning lamp so that is why you won't be getting the airbag lamp illuminated. The "Proactive occupant protection not available" message will almost certainly have something to do with these seatbelt tensioning errors.

Regarding the ETC unit in the glove compartment, DRSC is just the type of radio communication technology that is utilised by the ETC unit. It won't have anything to do with crash prevention. It sounds like that unit is just an aftermarket addition to the car so I think it should be safe for you to just rip it out and bin it.

Back to the headlamp fault, it looks like the headlamp aim can actually be changed in the infotainment center on the Golf Mk7 (see post #4 in this thread). Looking at your Auto-Scan results again for the Headlight Range faults, the fault was first triggered on 12th January at 17:32 so assuming you already had the car in your possession on Tuesday it suggests that you probably inadvertently changed that setting in the infotainment center while you were playing around without realising what it was for. At least you won't have to mess around using VCDS to set it back again.

We gat a LOT of japanese used imports here in NZ.

It's not uncommon for the radios to be japan specific, but I don't know if yours will be or not.

A lot of the BMW gear from the 2000's was japan ONLY, and had to be swapped for a euro version to work outside japan.

It may be worth you having a look on www.vask.org.nz (although it's giving some weird malware warning, though it's a popular NZ Audi/VW site).

Glen? Replied to your PM (on VWW) about this . My response is not inconsistent with what's being said here!

The fault codes for the seat belt pretensioners are because they haven't been coded to the car. I can only guess that the original tensioners were replaced for some reason when the car was in Japan but were never coded to the car. As no warning lights appear in the instrument cluster, maybe whoever replaced them was unaware that they needed to be coded or maybe they knew but couldn't be bothered to get it sorted before the car was exported.

This is one of the other threads detailing the same seat belt pretensioner fault...

Unfortunately there is no resolution on that thread due to lack of a valid security code to enable the required recoding to be done using VCDS, but on another forum the same person resigned themself to the fact that it would need to be resolved by a dealer who had online access to the required security codes (which would be done using their dealer VAS system)...

So maybe you are going to have to end up taking the car to a dealer unless RT are able to find out what the security code needed actually is so you can try and do it yourself using VCDS. It might be worth you posting a new thread in the Car Repair Support section of the forum relating to this specific individual problem and hopefully one of the RT guys will then pick it up from there.

At a guess, once you get the Component Protection is removed you will probably (hopefully) find that the volume then becomes controllable. I've read on some Audi forums that some controls don't seem to work when Component Protection is active. Unfortunately you won't know for sure until you get a dealer / VAG specialist to remove the Component Protection.

Hi guys. First of all, thanks for all of the helpful replies in this thread!

Gary, we have another SA code to test in that 15-Airbag controller so I'll reply in that thread. Hopefully, the OP has an opportunity to test it before the trip to the dealer .. but if it fails to work I would have them match the new belts when sorting the CP problem.

Hi again...
Good news and bad news !!

had the component protection removed and now have volume again !!
everything else works as it should, all my FM radio stations and all in english including voice control...except...
the navigation is not working ! i dont even get a compass in my clocks now !
when i press nav on the disc pro it just says "the navigation data in the infotainment system are not valid, please check data" ??? any suggestions guys please ?

also had the seatbelt faults cleared so no more warnings in

the other thing is when i start the system it says GTD on the screen now and not GTI (as the infotainment system came from a gtd) ?? any ideas how to change this ?

youve all been a great great help so far
