Another way to find out is to unplug and see if you get a DTC for short to open.

Thanks, I did check for DTCs with the motor unplugged, no DTCs showed. So I agree the transfer pump is likely not monitored.


You may in fact be experiencing the tanks completing a gravity feed only to the one tank and is why you get the warning.

I agree I am experiencing the gravity feed to the Aux/Reserve tank, (hence it being full). Also, when I get the warning I can only add about 1 gal of AdBlue to the main tank. Which would also seem to confirm only the main tank fluid is ever available (the 3000mi between warnings).

Digging into the measuring blocks the Channel 105 shows " 0 (no units) 3 (no units) 17 (no units) 88.0 l Tank Cont" which seems to be an implausible reading for the main fluid level (88.0 l Tank Cont), which has me concerned the level sensor in the main tank may also be a problem.

Trying to figure out if the transfer pump is triggered by Main Tank level or some other event (every time the vehicle is started etc). If it is triggered off of the tank level this may also be the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Well you could trick the level sender and than measure for transfer voltages at the pump.

This way you can verify the conditions needed.

I would also pull the WD and or tone generate the tracks to track all related devices.

I did trace the WD for the transfer pump, problem is the transfer pump is connected directly to the control module (like everything else). So without knowing which specific signals the control module is using to turn the transfer pump on and off I am into checking every device connected to the control module.

The fact the main tank level indicator is showing such a high value (88.0 l) makes me suspicious of the sensor, but that could be associated with not being able to perform the adaptation.

At this point in time I am planning on putting everything back together with the new pump and see what happens. At least I'll know the transfer pump is good, if the problem persists I know to start tearing into the main tank and the sensors.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I'll post updates as I learn.

Does the module support outputs to be pulsed for the transfer pump or does it commence when Outputs are queried?

I tried a couple of things last night to resolve the above issues, but the 008319 Reductant Quality Performance keeps coming back on along with a warning that I have 450 miles until no restart.

Here's what I did:

I pulled the AdBlue injector out of the exhaust system and noticed that the port the nozzle sits in was approx 90% blocked with crystallized AdBlue.



I also checked the nozzle itself and it wasn't that dirty, but cleaned it off as best I could. Here is a picture before cleaning.





Please note that the part # has now been superseded to suffix "C".

I thought this would surely solve my issue, but after doing a hard reset via pulling the fuse, the low AdBlue light & 450 mile warning came back on. Only 1 fault code showed up this time though.

I tried to remove the rear Nox sensor to clean it like Jack suggested, but I couldn't get it to budge. I put some PB blaster on it and am letting it soak in and will try again tonight.

I'm open to thoughts or suggestions on what else to check. I'm wondering if the low temp here in Michigan the last few days is playing a part on the 008251 Reductant level sensor. I know the AdBlue will freeze at approx 12F and we've been in the -10 to +10 range these last few days. Granted there is a AdBlue heater, but not sure how quickly / effectively it works in these temps.

Yeah it could freeze with these temps.

Success! Removed the rear Nox sensor and heated it up like you suggested and so far so good. The 008319 code for reductant quality and low AdBlue warning went off immediately after re-installing the sensor and restarting the vehicle.

I also checked my rear Nox sensor control module to see what version it is. Part# 059-907-807-D is what I have installed, but that has also been superseded to 059-907-807-G. Not sure what the difference between the two is though.

I'll keep an eye on everything and update this thread if anything changes down the road.

Hello Dr. Peter,

MVB-183 shows 1.32. What does this tell us?

Old AdBlue was removed & fresh / new AdBlue added when I replaced the heater repair kit in the AdBlue tank. PEAK Blue DEF has been used as well as the AdBlue from the VW dealer. Tank has been emptied and refilled 2x since I've owned the vehicle from Oct, 2014. I've also consistently topped off the tank every 10k miles.

As for how far the vehicle has been driven. It's a sporadic fault that seems to come and go as it pleases since I purchased the vehicle with approx 89k miles on it. It now has 107,931 miles. Presently, not showing any faults, but I know that will change again in a day or two.

Just trying to figure out if it's the NOx sensor itself, the AdBlue injector not injecting sufficient quantity, or something else.

This seems to be a common problem with Audi & VW's with AdBlue treatment systems. Some dealers are just replacing the entire AdBlue components, which I wouldn't have a problem with if VW was footing the bill, but I'm way out of warranty and don't want to just throw parts at it and drain my wallet in the process.

You could have a bad CAT or the CAT is restricted with contaminates.

Remove it and clean it.........just as you would clean a DPF.

I have found that chemical removal works well for all three.
CAT/DPF, NOX and OXS.

I have been developing a system to as a matter of speech " ass rape the tail pipe enema ".

I take magical chemicals...... then blow them up to the DPF/turbo with the scrubbing bubbles + water and air PSI adding a blockage plate to turbo and bubbling it for 30 minutes........ then back flush and run it HOT Farting the car!

So far it's showing promise with the bore camera.........proctologist's look out.

Measuring Value Block Group [183] field 1 = SCR Learned Adaptation value

1.01 = Baseline (center) (not 1.00)
Acceptable Range = 0.90 to 1.10

A value greater than 1.00 = adding more reducing agent (example 1.20 = clogged injector, High DPF content, etc...)
A value less than 1.00 = taking away reducing agent (example 0.80 = leaking injector, etc. . )

So are there more tests or measuring value blocks that can help to pin point exactly what part(s) needs to be replaced to solve the DTC I keep getting?

I'd really like to fix the issue below myself if at all possible vs having to take it to the dealer.

0140 (which is what you have) appears to be the latest for 7L0-907-401-T.

However, I would suppose that there is a diselgate update for that ECU with a different part number. Personally, I'm not at all sure I'd go there.

That's what I figured... I might try to flash the same version, hopefully it will unlock adblue warning message.
Or maybe someone will know what software ver they change too, please?

A car doesn't start anymore so there is no other option but flash or abandon the repair altogerher. I used to work on Skoda with similar issue and new software did the trick, and it was software with different part number as you suggested ;)

Is it safe to assume you have tried the Adaptation Channel 080 reset?
- Save "001" to that channel.

Also try disconnecting the fuse for the AdBlue system. Cycle the ignition to set a fault code for that system. Then re-install the fuse and try the Adaptation Channel 080 reset again.
