Hello Ross-tech and forum users.

I was very close to buying a package a few years ago when we got my wife's Tiguan, but I didn't think I would get enough use of out it.
But now that I got a Q3, I think I can justify the purchase, especially since the new model is out!

So now I'm saving a bit and I will place an order soon, so I thought I would bug users of this forum with some questions.

I have a couple of immediate needs for the tool, on both cars disabling DRL and enabling TPMS on the Q3. If it has the right ABS module, which I'm still trying to figure out.

I have no plans to replace or upgrade stuff, but I would like to have control over some features that bug me, such as putting the radio on the Tiguan in timer mode instead of turning off. Normally, it should turn off when the key is removed and this has bugged me from day one. Of course, if it can be done.

Stuff like that, I'm sure I will find some other tweaks once I get it. I also own a Scangauge II, but that's a different class of tools, useful for real time monitoring and some OBDC code reading, unlike VCDS, which is a true tool that can also change setings.

From what I saw on the forums, there is a ton of information and codes, so I hope to be able to find what I need, when I will need it.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Hi somedude and welcome to the forum.

Once you have your VCDS tool, and you can have a full tool for as little as $199 and cover both these cars, you should come back to the forum and post the Autoscans from the vehicle on which you wish to make the mods. With the information in the scans, the community can then look and determine whether or not your desired changes can be performed. We look forward to helping you here.

Thank you Bruce.

I'm hoping to not run into nasty surprises after I get the tool...
This kind of stuff should be feasible, right?
I realize it depends on the cars, but my requests aren't far fetched, are they?

It's hard to say exactly what is and isn't possible without seeing scans from the cars in question because much depends on how they're equipped, and in some cases, even the software versions in the modules...

Hi Uwe and thanks for jumping in.

I'm not polishing the proverbial apple, but being a huge fan of Peter Sellers, every time I see your avatar I smile, thinking of Dr. Strangelove.

I think I was simply asking whether VCDS is capable of doing those things, but I answered that question by doing some searches.
Others have disabled daytime running lights, enabled the tire pressure monitor and then some, such as enabling the green menu in the MMI.

Much to my chagrin, I can't figure out what version of MMI I have, but I will cross that bridge once I get the tool.
It may not even be MMI, in spite of the display saying so, because this is the base model Q3 without NAV, even without the media interface. If I have my acronym right, it may be the radio based interface RCM or something like that.

BTW, do you guys also have a store in Lasndale, or just the online one?

Sure, but I can't promise you that you'll be able to do all those things in the exact cars that you have, and I would rather under-sell than over-sell. :)

Our office is there, but it's not a retail store. If a customer wishes to pick up an order, that can be arranged, but we ask that they place the order on-line so that we have it ready for them. If a customer wishes to stop in to have us check something out on their car, we ask that the make an appointment for that. Some days (or even weeks) are better than others.

Until I get the activation code, here is my auto scan with the VIN obfuscated (sorry - paranoia).

I'd be very interested if I could enable TPMS and Passenger side mirror tilt when backing up.

Thank you very much

Until I get the activation code
Since you ordered your HEX-V2 directly from us, you should not need an activation code; it should be pre-registered to you. I see a registration request from you. Is the software giving you an indication that it needs to be registered?

I'd be very interested if I could enable TPMS and Passenger side mirror tilt when backing up.
[Select]
[52-Door Elect, Pass.]
[Coding]
[Long Coding Helper]
Click on Byte 4.
There should be an option for Reverse Gear Mirror Dipping

But I'm not certain your car supports it.

Thanks Uwe,

Sorry about that, I followed instructions on the forum, thinking it needs to be registered.
I didn't try anything to be honest, I am a bit afraid to do anything without homework.

I will, however, try.

No worries. It happens with some regularity that we get registration requests from direct customer whose systems should have been pre-registerd, and I've been scratching my head wondering why. Usually I don't have and open channel with them like I do with you, so I just approve their requests. But in your case, I figured I'd ask. Anyway, unless you see something that indicates you only have a certain number of unregistered uses left, there's no need.

Thank you.

It turns out I didn't need any registration, it just worked and registered the VIN.
I was able to find and set the options for mirror dipping.
There were three bits, I set all three.

Much to my delight, when I put it in reverse, the mirror dipped.
Then much to my dismay, the mirror refused to return to normal once I padded 10 mph or when I turned ignition on.
I may have to do some research on how to set it properly, but it almost feels that it worked.

I also tried going into the MMI and ABS to see if I can enable the green menu or TPMS, but no lock there, I have to research some more.

Also, one ECU was not found and I already posted my scan, but it also asked for some additional info (sorry, I forgot what) that I don't know how to pull. I will post details, but right now I need some shuteye.

Thank you very much for everything.

Sorry, one more: I found this on audizine:

Enable Hidden menu in MMI
[5F - Information Electr.]
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 6
change 0 to 1

I understand 5F and the bit toggle from 0 to 1.
I also assume channel 6 would be bit 6, but what's "adaptation"? Is that the byte?
Is the numbering the same, in other words, fist byte is 0 and not 1 and first bit 0 like it normally would?

Just scared that I might mess things up...
