As a pre cursor to having the emissions mods done tomorrow I`ve scanned the car (R6 polo) for a before and after scan, but its thrown a fault code up on the door(s) and I`m wondering if anyone can shed some light as to what this new fault is/was (which I`ve now cleared). The only other thread I can find on this fault code has no replies
I`m also aware there is an old fault remaining on the HVAC which I`m disregarding for now. As its also going to have the aircon serviced tomorrow as well.

Are you 100% sure you want to have the VW emissions "fix" done? It's not compulsory, you can say "thanks but no thanks".

Do some Googling and you'll find a significant number of owners having problems after the mods that didn't exist before - the worst I've read is someone (in the UK) who had the turbo oil seal fail and required a new turbo, fortunately VW stepped up to the plate and admitted it was caused by the mod (so much for it won't change anything and is safe???) and paid the full bill of approx £5,000.

Think long and hard before agreeing to the emissions mod....

I'd at least get in writing that an EGR failure will be covered by VW for a decent period of time (maybe 3 or 6 months) after the update.

EGR failures seem pretty common after the update too. I thought there were 2 examples of Polos having failures, just on this forum??? A few Caddy guys have had it too.

Economy results vary afterwards too, from slightly better to about 15% worse.

Pre & post emission mod scans
After cancelling the initial booking for the Diesel emissions due to a family tragedy, the car was returned to the dealer for the work to be carried out.

Thanks Uwe, that was the only thing I noticed when I compared them. There is apparently some kind of flow "straighter" fitted to the air intake pipe before the airflow sensor. The only difference in engine behaviour that I've noticed so far is a slight "rattling" sound at low rpm (1000-1500) as the engine labours to pull away from a standstill. A sound I'd describe as "pinking" on a petrol engine, but above 2000 rpm the power is there, but the car seems to require a few more gear changes than before, it that could be down to my driving style around town. This would indicate the mapping changes have altered the power delivery. The dealer did call me last night to enquire how it was, so I raised my concerns about this "rattling" to which they stated "give it a week or 2, and if it's still causing concern give us a call and we'll plug it into the diagnosistics and check it out"

Update: I stopped by the dealers for a chat and to raise a few concerns since the mod.
Despite there being no warning lamps etc. The fuel consumption is taking a hit with around 50+ miles per tank less despite like for like useage, the DPF is cycling more frequently but not excessively, and there's a little less umph & the engine is sluggish when setting off from a standstill, it's as if the engine is taking a deep breath before it pulls away, and momentarily pauses which has led to a few interesting moments when pulling out of side streets into mainstream traffic, but above 1500rpm the power delivery seems ok. The gear indicator on the dash also seems to be asking me to change gear much lower down the rev range. My gut feeling is everything seems to point to the map update loaded during the mod.
If the engine was a petrol engine I'd say the timing was advanced and it was pinking. This pinking would also explain the symptoms I mentioned and may also explain the "rattling" up to 1500rpm I mentioned previously.
A mechanic from the dealer took a test drive and also hooked it up to read any possible fault codes (non found).
I stated that I'm due to go on vacation with the car in a few weeks, and the receptionist suggested that I (casually) bring it back in a week prior to departing to check it over again, the receptionist did try to suggest that the map installed prior to the mod wasn't the original and someone may have remapped the car in the 1st 3yrs prior to my ownership, but the previous owner was a senior citizen and the car was supplied to them via a government approved disability scheme, and routinely serviced by an approved dealer.
When I spoke to the head mechanic about the rattling, he decided that the car should be booked in and make the car available to them all day, and he would arrange for the injectors to be tested onsite, and should there be any issues it will allow them to discuss it with the VW techs and get a resolution
