I installed a MFSW on my 2016 e-Golf. All of the volume/media buttons work perfectly without doing any coding...the backlights on all the buttons is working just fine too. But, I can't get the cruise control to work. I followed the instructions in the wiki and changed the MF Variant to "High"

I then logged into the ECM to activate the cruise control, but it caused a whole bunch of error lights in the dash. I reverted the coding and am looking for solutions.

I found a retrofit guide online that says I need to retrofit a wire in pin #5 of the steering module to the ECM (pin unknown for the e-Golf). I haven't pulled the cover on the steering wheel to check to see if that wire is installed yet. But, I'm more worried about the error I get in the current autoscan on Address 19: "Additional Installations Detected"

I'm assuming that there is some coding that I need to make on the CAN Gateway to tell the car that the MFSW is installed, but as you can see, there is no currently .clb file for that module so I can't play around to see if there are any bits I can turn on/off to make this functional.

Before I pull off the steering column trim to check for a wire in pin #5, can anyone provide any insight? If not, how can I get a wiring diagram to determine what pin in the ECM I should be connecting to?

As for wiring diagrams, see: Where do I get a Wiring Diagram?. But keep in mind that the e-Golf's ECM is hardly a traditional ECM...

Yes, this is a US car without cruise control. To save cost on the SE version of the e-Golf, VW stripped the MFSW and didn't replace the turn stalk with one that has cruise control buttons. Go figure.

Anyhow - salivating aside, I believe that your model car has the cruise control wire connected from Pin #5 on J527 Steering column electronics control unit and the other end connects to pin 56 on the 94 pin connector of J623 Engine control unit. But because the Engine module has a chastity belt, the wiring diagram shows that a wire is run from Pin 94 to Pin #12 on the connector TIUL which is the Coupling point in interior, on the lower left side (behind the kick panel to the left of the driver's left foot rest). This wire is back/White in colour

As for your CAN Gateway DTC, my mk7 (nothing as fancy as an e-Golf) which has a slightly different module P/N has the following long coding helper screen

I note that the code-string on your car has this Bit set to 0 (understandable, guven that your car didn't have a MFSW) - might be worth a try

Also, here's another "related" long coding helper screen that may be instructive. Again, my mk7 Engine module @ address hex01 is different than your beast (which has a Byte 5 value of hex04, or binary 0000 0100). Interesting the Bit 0 isn't set on my car - even though the steering wheel is on the correct side (being the right-side)?

Sure enough, PIN #5 is empty! So, I think that simply adding the wire from PIN #5 to the ECU would fix my Cruise Control issue. But, a few questions:

  1. You mentioned pin #56 on the ECU. Any way I can verify this is the same for the Electric Golf?
  2. How in the world do I determine what repair wire to order to get this to work?
  3. Is the ECU in the Golf that thing between the battery and the fusebox?

Here's a screenshot of my Byte 5 on the ECU. I'm LHD. When I set Bit 5-6 to Cruise Control Installed, the ECU accepts the coding, but I get all sorts of errors...likely because I don't have Pin #5 wired up.

Update. I think I found the ECM connector. Pulled it, and PIN 56 has this placeholder plug installed in it. I think this is good evidence that this is the correct PIN. I'm going to look into sourcing the right connectors on the wires and hooking it up to see if this allows me to enable Cruise Control.

My apology for the misinformation - The version of the wiring diagram dated march 2013 for the e-Golf strongly suggests that Pin 56 is populated but that the black/white wire from the coupling TIUL is not installed on cars that don't have CC factory fitted- clearly it's not, perhaps it's a NAR thing!!!

Interesting. The e-Golf SEL has cruise control, but my e-Golf SE does not. Perhaps the wiring diagram you were looking at is for an SEL? I actually haven't pulled back the carpet to see if any wires going to the TIUL or not...I was just going to run a wire straight to the ECU to simplify my life a little bit.

Maybe I'll pull back the carpet and check it out later tonight.

Ok, one step further:

I installed a trigger wire (000-979-009 for the steering wheel control module side and 000-979-030 for the ECM side) from the steering wheel control module to the ECM. I just ghetto rigged it just to see if this works.

A few things:
-Error on CAN gateway about cruise control button signal loss went away
-Changed the coding on the ECM to tell the car it has cruise control
-Cruise control icon now lights up on dash when pushing on/off, but with an exclamation point next to it
-A bunch of errors on the ECM and ABS control modules

I'm thinking that perhaps there's some missing coding on the brake control module to tell the brake module tell the ECM when the brakes are pressed? I'm not sure. Trying to figure this one out.

Found some coding for a 2015 SEL (has cruise control) online. A few differences in our coding.

ECM:
000D0016002400007000 -SEL
000D0012002400007000 -ME

-Differences in the ECM appear to be due to the fact that I don't have a heat pump and the SEL does. Pretty similar here.

ABS:
01FA40A12C20316D017E020781C5298002348C80408194B202810058C242 -SEL
01FA40A12C212171857B020981CB2980023484A14081943200810058C24203 -ME

Major differences in the ABS module. Looks like they updated the PN for 2016 too. There's no controller map for my ABS control module so, I can't tell what any of these options are.

I don't think there's a prayer of that working on an ECU that uses UDS like yours does. ;)

I guess that was a noob question. I did some searching and now I realize what UDS is and that this wouldn't work on my car. :P

Now I realize why all the 08-Measuring Blocks on my car are greyed out.

Going back to my previous Autoscan, the error "8314 - Check Coding of ECUs on Powertrain Data Bus" appears on both the ECM and ABS module. Is this a clue that there is some necessary coding in the ABS to get this working?

i have tried to retrofit ccs to audi a3 8v and failed, but coding in abs seems to be byte 24 bit 1 on, or HEX 02, in my case even after that still had 8314 in engine, but worth to try maybe we can sort this one :)
also just remembered you need new gas pedal 5Q1723503H

Thank you for the reply. I looked up the gas pedal for my car in ETKA a while ago and saw that it my car had the correct part number, but when you mentioned it, I thought I'd better physically double check:

It is the right one. So, luckily, that's not my problem since that pedal is like $200.

I'll try byte 24 as you mentioned first thing in the morning and see what happens. From my long coding, my byte 24 is "00" and the e-Golf SEL that I'm comparing to is "02". This is a good lead. Do you happen to have a label for that bit? Is it just something generic like "cruise control installed"?
