Hey Michael, any updates on getting the soundaktor to work? I want to install one in my 2017 Golf Alltrack. I have the mode button for selecting the different driving profiles (sport, comfort, normal.. ) wondering if anyone knows or has any idea if this mod would work in mine.

Also, I've been reading up on that SEAT Leon forum you mentioned at the beginning of the thread and I'm wondering if using the SEAT version of the soundaktor control unit (which part number starts with 5F0) instead of the 5G0 907 159 would make any difference on smaller displacement engines, like the 1.8T.

Hey Bruno, just responded to your PM over on VWVortex. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Just saw your message.. that's a real bummer you couldn't get it to work. Don't lose all hope though, maybe the SEAT version of the control unit, which is fitted to the 1.8TSI and has a different part # will work. I'm curious which control unit VW used in the MK6 Polo GTI.. it also has a 1.8T.

Can you explain to me how and where you tapped into the CAN High and CAN Low? Also, did you make your own harness for the control unit?

The wire assignments can be found in this post on this thread. The unit I picked up was pulled from an MK7 R with wire connectors and all cut. I simply spliced new yellow vw repair wires that could plug into the BCM slots on the other end. I swear I took photos of my install. Let me look around for those and post them.

Hey everyone, I really need some help figuring this one out!

So I finally got all the parts necessary and made some time for retrofittig the soundaktor into my Golf Alltrack. I spent last weekend tearing the car apart and installing everything in, I took pictures along the way and would really like to post a detailed DIY guide, but ran into a very unexpected big problem..

After enabling A9 - Struct. Borne Sound under 19-CAN Installation List in VCDS, if I connect the soundaktor control module (J869) to power (via the fuse box), the fuel pump starts to recirculate gas through the hoses, in and out of the filter. This happens continuously, even with the car completely off and locked. The only way to stop it is to pull the fuse for the soundaktor module out. Reinserting the fuse immediately restarts the pump.

Other adaptations/settings in VCDS related to the mod:
ENG137058-SFT00169-GW_Enable_CAN_Timeout_DTC-Actuator For Structure-borne Sound - Enabled (this was actually already enabled from the factory)
IDE01996-SFT00169-Installation list: specified installations-Actuator For Structure-borne Sound - Coded (Stock was set to Not coded)

There were no other settings I could find related to the soundaktor (other than the volume, which was set to 100%, I didn't have to change it).

Installation was as follows..

J869 - Soundaktor Control Module:

Pin 1 (Black) --------------------> connected to Pin 1 on Sound Actuator (R214)
Pin 2 (Gray) ---------------------> connected to Pin 2 on Sound Actuator (R214)
Pin 3 (Black/Yellow) ------------> connected to fuse SC34 (15 amp)
Pin 4 (Brown) -------------------> connected to ground terminal on firewall near battery in engine bay
Pin 5 (Orange/Brown) ----------> connected to CAN Low at TIUL coupling joint (T17e brown connector Pin 2) on the bottom left station behind kick panel with hood release handle (LHD)
Pin 6 (Orange/Black) -----------> connected to CAN High at TIUL coupling joint (T17e brown connector Pin 1); same location as CAN Low above

Pin 1 on the T17e connector (brown) connects to Pin 16 on the gateway (J533) for CAN High; Pin 2 connects to Pin 6 on the gateway for CAN Low.

Some other MQB platform owners have had this error when retrofitting the sound actuator to vehicles with engine types that are not supported by the sound actuator e.g. on the Skoda Octavia it is only supported by the 2.0L engines.

I thought that too, but the latest generation Polo GTI (not sure if it is MQB or not) has the same EA888 1.8TSI engine as my Golf Alltrack, and it has a soundaktor. The part number is also the same as the one found in the Golf 7 GTI. There are some MQB Seats that also have the soundaktor with the 1.8TSI (their soundaktor module does however, have a different part number). There is a thread on a Seat Leon forum in Spain talking about this retrofit (as mentioned by quailallstar), and using the Seat part number, they got it to work even on diesel models that were retrofitted with it:
