Retrofit MFSW - error message when coding

Hi,

I just installed a multifunction steering wheel on my Audi a4 b8 where there was none and I´m trying to code it through VCDS. But after trying to code 16-steering to add mfsw I get the Message "Code rejected error 31: Request out of range"

I don´t know if I have got the right steering wheel module (8K0 953 568 E).

According to PartsLink24 by VIN 8K0-953-568-G is the direct replacement module for this vehicle but that was dropped back in 2012 and replaced with 8K0-953-568-M which should still be current. I was able to locate scans from vehicles with 8K0-953-568-G installed and MFSW enabled in the coding.

The installed 8K0-953-568-E module precedes the older G flavor so parts information isn't available but my best guess would be the installed module does not support MFSW.

I have now installed the new slip ring*8K0 953 568 M witch supports multifunctional buttons.

Anyway, I´m not able to code it. I did an auto scan and got plenty of fault codes. Also made a calibration of the steering but don’t know if it made any different.

The good news is that this module certainly supports MFSW

but that coding 0000FF has EVERYTHING enabled out of the box!

#16 is the G85 sensor so you may want to calibrate that via basic settings so some of the modules in this vehicle will allow you to clear fault codes. You may also try entering non zero WSC/Importer/Equipment directly into the Options screen > User Interface and Identification and [Save] to eliminate a false coding rejection and that uninitialized control module warning. If the battery voltage is questionable and you do not have a charger handy, try coding it with the engine running.

I have now change WSC/Importer/Equipment to non zero values with no success coding #16. Still get the error message. And the fault code for the cruise control witch is not working for the moment.

However, I went to radio and code it with MFSW and the buttons on the steering wheel is now working, except the button with the talking mouth.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is but I wonder if:

1) That CCS stalk is either faulty (wear and tear in addition to age and being on/off a handful of times) -or- incompatible with the new #16 module.

Do the MVBs switch in 01 or 16 for CCS positions?

2) The new/used #16 Coding: 0000FF looks suspicious to me. 000016 and 000036 are the most common coding configurations and we assist with that configuration frequently due to SWCM replacements after Airbag deployment from body shop and mobile technician subscription callers.

If this was a rebuilt #16 controller as opposed to a used controller (because I highly doubt that a vehicle would have ALL of those options enabled) I have to wonder if it is corrupted. Will it accept any new coding values, including the factory configuration of 000006?
