Hi Guys,

This is the second time this error pops up, first time was at 591kms. I don't know where to start to troubleshoot the problem, since I've no idea when it will happen or what is like when it happen. Could you please shed some light on this? Thank you.

My guess: Bad headlight switch.

Is the switch and such stock? If so, and if it were mine, and given that this car has less than 2000 km on it, I'd take it to the dealer, where I would play dumb and say something like, "my headlights wouldn't turn on the other day until I fiddled with the switch several times."

xiaozliu: I certainly agree with Uwe's sage advice - the car warranty is a very good way of making your problem the responsibility of the dealer and it's always important to exercise warranties- because they tend to get fat and lazy if not used regularly!!

But just for explanation of the possible cause, here's a copy of the "inner-bits" of the rotary light switch in a mk7 which I cobbled-together after testing my switch (I did this for a colleague in another forum) - the arrangement is similar to that of a mk6, but the fog light circuitry is a little different (notice that there is only one wire to operate both the front and rear fog-lights):

I've shown a "Euro" switch in the diagram, because this is the type in my car, but the NAR model version is similar. The important thing to notice about the circuitry is that the bank of switches in E1 ALWAYS provide a 12Volt state to one of the 4 x wires to the BCM. If the BCM doesn't receive a 12V signal from one (and only one) of these pins, it gets cranky and produces the expletive "Signal Implausible". If (as I suspect), the error message happens when the switch is in the "0" position, it tends to infers that the 12V signal to PIN #46 (Socket A) on the BCM is missing. This could be due to a number of reasons including the switch contact, fuse SC8, or a connection in the black/green wire.

If this wasn't a warranty matter, a good way of validating the likely cause of the problem would be to move the light switch to another position, clear the DTC and then re-poll the BCM - does the DTC re-appear? If so, the cause is likely to be in the switch, if not the downstream wire and connections is a probable cause (IMO)
