The G247 –Rail Fuel Pressure (High-side) Sensor.

We have had several inquires about many Audi/Volkswagen BPY 2.0L vehicles having 'Lean running' issues and 'Lean fault codes'.

So I would like to take the time to help shed some light on one of the possible causes and some
things to look at when attempting to diagnose these HPF systems.

- First step is to check your MVB Group [032], if you see a lean condition on both fields (1) and (2), then consider
the fact that you may have the wrong G247-Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor installed.

Fuel Trim Info

- If this is a replacement engine, check the G247 sensor!!! You may have the wrong G247-Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor installed.
This can happen even with a new engine as the new engine could be shipped with the last sensor in
production for that engine code.. Both VW and Audi had documents about this.

In this example: The NAR Passat (3C)

NAR Passat(3C) w/BPY engines - - up to >>> 3C_6_300 000
Original G247 Sensor 06D 906 051 A (drops in 2010) (This sensor is Black in color)
Above supersedes to 06H 906 051 A (drops in 2013) (This sensor is Black in color, may have a Blue ring)
Above supersedes to 06J 906 051 C (This sensor is Black in color)

or

NAR Passat(3C) w/BPY engines - - from 3C_7_000 001 >>>
Original G247 Sensor 06J 906 051 B (drops in 2010) (This sensor is Black in color)
Above supersedes to 06J 906 051 D (This sensor is Orange in color)

Note: The above part numbers are not interchangeable with replacements,
they are intended for forward or linear supersessions only!

IMPORTANT! - The above is information is deemed reliable but is NOT 100% Guaranteed.
You MUST consult with your local parts department and provide them with the VIN of the vehicle in question.

Also note we have been made aware that some aftermarket parts suppliers have been selling the
OEM (Real VW/Audi parts) G247 Sensors but they have not cataloged the above part numbers correctly.
- So it is possible you will receive the incorrect part and experience 'Lean' faults. Size of the thrust sensor does not matter in this case.

Hope this helps and double check your parts!

Although this list is not complete I wanted to add what I found for searching reasons:

  1. VW TSB 20-08-01 | TPI 2018183 (July 10, 2008)
MIL ON, DTC P2293 Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Performance Stored in ECM after Installing Replacement Engine
Summary; That document said to make sure G247 matches the part number from the original engine.

  2. VW Tech Tip TT 20-10-01 (February 05, 2010)
2006-2008 Jetta, GTI, and Passat with 2.0T (BPY) Engine – Engine Replacement Tip or Fault Code P2293
Summary; That document said to make sure G247 matches the part number from the original engine.

It also included a list of ECM part numbers and compatible pressure sensors but the data is obsolete at this point in time. Consult with your local parts department by VIN.

Internal ref to: ST?ID=68445

I spoke to a shop today that installed a used BWT 2.0T engine in place of the factory equipped BPG due to catastrophic camshaft and bearing bracket/cylinder head damage. He was fighting 18725/P2293/008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Mechanical Malfunction even after swapping HPFPs.

I don't have an update yet but we confirmed 06D 906 051 A was on the original engine and that was correct per VIN in PL24 (VIN split >>8E-6-400000). The BWT engine looks like a 2007 + M.Y. B7 engine so I suspect the incorrect 06J 906 051 B (8E-7-000001 >>) sensor is to blame.

Edit: The wrong G247 was installed so he put the original to the car G247 back in.
