Hi !
Just upgraded my licence plate bulbs with LED ones ( 1K8943021B ) and even though i know what coding i need to change, i cannot seem to be able to do that

the info i found says that i need to change

-> Controller 09 - Central Electronics
-> 16 - Security Access - enter 31347
-> 10 - Adaptations
Change the 2 channels as:
(1)-Leuchte25KZL HA59-Lasttyp 25 - set to 43 - allgemeine LED
(6) Leuchte25KZL HA59 - Dimmwert AB 25 - set to 127

i use the latest VCDS release ( 15.7.4 ) and i can't seem to find the 2 correct adaptation groups.
They should be 481 Light configuration Lasttyp 25 and Dimmwert AB 25, but adaptation does not work.

When i try to change Lasttyp 25 i get stored value unknown, and if i try to change Dimmwert AB 25 it will not save the new value.

Any ideas ?

Welcome to the forum.

First job is to register your VCDS cable online VCDS Dongle Registration then you'll get more response from users.

When you post a full AutoScan you put the code inside CODE tags as it tales up less room.
Full AutoScan
How to post an Auto-Scan

LED bulbs generally have to have extra resistors in the circuit to avoid the bulb out warning.

Hi !
Just upgraded my licence plate bulbs with LED ones ( 1K8943021B ) and even though i know what coding i need to change, i cannot seem to be able to do that

the info i found says that i need to change

-> Controller 09 - Central Electronics

Any ideas ?

Koz: Good morning and welcome to the forum. I'm not sure, but at a guess and from your description of events, I suspect that you are mixing up "Light configuration" and "Leuchte" channels (my apology for being so blunt). The two are most certainly related, but they are different. The tweak for this problem (it's not really a problem because there are no DTCs in the BCM) must be implemented on the "Leutche" channels (not the light configuration channels). A good way to make sure that you have access to the correct channels is to use the brilliant "search" box. Just type the term "Leutche25KZL" into the search box and the 19 x channels in the correct Leutche-set will appear in the adapatation drop-down box (above the search box). Then simply select the (1) and (6) channels.
Don

PS: As a post script explanation, in MQB models there appears to be a mirror set of "Light configuration" channels for every Leutche channel (a total of 665 x channels for each). But there appears to be two distinct kinds of connection between the two: the settings for the headlight lamps appear to be closely correlated (except for the hi-beam) and the rest of the lamps appear to have no correlation.

For the closely correlated lamps, the active channel appears to be the Leuchte one and its slave seems to be the light configuration channel. Whenever the Leuchte channel is changed, the corresponding light configuration channel changes to a related value. For the non-correlated light configuration channels, the settings appear to have no connection with their twin Leuchte channels. In fact, my observation has been that the setting for the light configuration channels for these lamps is not stable- they can change with successive polling!

I'm not sure why this happens, but I suspect that the light configuration channel is related to the power supply set-up for the lamps. My suspicion is that whilst both correlated and non-correlated lamps are directly driven from the BCM, the correlated lights have an interposing regulated power source of some kind (within the headlight assembly) -but this is just a guess. I'd welcome anyone's views about this because it has been a mystery to me for some time

Thank you very mutch, you made my day. You were right, i was confusing lights with leuchte ... All ok now.

Any idea what dimmert ab25 does? Can't seem to be able to set it back to 120 ... The original value.

MANY MANY THANKS ONCE AGAIN !!!

koz: that's fantastic- glad that I could help! As to your question, the answer lies in the structure of a Leuchte-set (being the 19 x adaptation channels that control each of the 35 x lamps) on a MQB platform vehicle.

Here's what the structure of a Leuchte-set looks like:
  • adaptation channels (1), (2) and (3) establish the lamp type and the address location (this is my guess) for the monitoring functions
  • the remaining 16 x adaptation channels are separated into 4 x banks with each bank (Leuchte-subset) containing 4 x adapation channels
  • For each Leuchte subset, the structure is:
    • The first two adatation channels (called an alpha-pair) determine the function of the lamp
    • The next adaption channel is the "Dimmwert" channel and this determines the illumination level of the lamp. For incandescent lamps, the range of this channel is 0-100 and for LEDs, the value is (generally) 0-127
    • The final adaption channel in a Leuchte-subset is the "Dimming Direction" channel which determines the way that the lamp is dimmed (i.e. maximum, or minimum)

So, if your car originally had an incandescent lamp in the number-plate fitting, then it's entirely certain that the Dimmwert value was 100 (not 120) and if the setting for the "Lasttype" adaptation channel is for an incandescent lamp. then I suspect that this explains your error
Don

PS: If you have an interest and you would like to read more about Leuchte channels, I wrote a document containing my guess of how this stuff works. You can download the paper HERE. It's a bit wordy and it needs serious editing, but it might be useful
