Wee fault here with a polo just before I do A belt/chain change was wondering is it worth checking out the sensor or is it a common problem for a stretched chain or poor chain tensioner to give these symptoms.

Sounds like bad G28........or contaminated with oil + frags.

Intermittent on chain stretch ............possible............more likely oil PSI/volume from sludge particle contaminates .

Thanks on the lift tomorrow will remove sump and move upwards after that,
Few areas to check on the timming and tensioner for slack then will swap out G28 after that

Don't forget to Tyrone shoe laces...... before tripping and slipping on oil slick floor.

Be sure to check oil PSI regulation and if sump over filled.

Glad to hear you Tyrone shoelaces and didn't trip........:p

Was the G28 sensor internally contaminated with oil or cracked?

Did the oil make its way to the electrical connector like candle wick?

If you still have it check it out and report back.

This happens from improper oil level .........remediation/seal/piston rings....... causing crank case gases not being removed properly, caused by blow by.

For more information read posts on my rants about synthetic oils and increased levels of gases due to combustion seal imperfections fuel contamination of the oil.

Cars gone and in back pocket Jack :)

One thing I did notice was a oil level on the high side, I tend to keep oil a smidgen below full on the dip stick myself, replaced with fully syn VW Spec oil

Thank you for that confirmation.....

Keep in mind, oil slight low cold, becomes higher through expansion hot......

When higher gets whipped by the crank like mixer......aerated and now becomes a penetrant with fine micro conductive material , that causes such havoc.
