Hello,

First of all I'm happy to be part of your comunity.

Any of you know what's the story with these fault codes, see 01 engine & 09 Cent Elect.
The fault code found in the 01 engine, the dealer can't see it at all (no MIL on the dash either) and regarding the second code from 09 they are telling me that is something ''normal'' on MQB Platform (previously they changed the heater element and the module).
FYI, the dealer confirmed that they scan in ''agressive mode'' as well.
Everything is working fine, is just annoying to see these fault codes.

Thank you

Thank you

Thinkblue: Good evening. Welcome to the forum and I'm honoured to be your first responder!

I don't have a definitive answer to the fault in the extract above, but I was sufficiently intrigued by it's nature to have a look at the WD for the passenger side heater system on a mk7 Golf. The picture below is my synopsis of the sub ciruits for the passenger side heating system from the BCM and the Airbag control modules

GJCDRic.png

As is clearly evident, the arrangement is fairly straight-forward (electrically); the heater elements for the seat and backrest are wired in series and the temperature sender (which resides in the seat portion) is separately wired back to the BCM (both wires). I've included the occupant sender for completeness - though I suspect that the fault isn't in this circuit

If you really want to fault find this problem (I assume that clearing the DTCs hasn't worked), I suspect a multimeter and a full wiring diagram might be beneficial! I've not shown in my diagrams above, but all the wires pass through what VW call "TSVR" which is a coupling point for the passenger seat. TSVR is physically located on the body side of the seat floor (on the inside side of the portion of the floor pan on which the adjustment rail is fitted). Perhaps the integrity of the connectors at this coupling point might be worthy of your first endeavours. Then a check the temp sender resistance (I believe that G345 is a NTC device meaning that its resistance decreases with increase in temperature). Alas I have no information regarding the actual characteristic of G345, but if you can isolate the sender and provide heat to it, the resistance should drop (if my understanding is correct) - at the very least, the resistance should alter with the application of heat. Finally, measuring the résistance of the heating elements might be of interest. Again, alas I don't know the resistance of a healthy seat heater element on a mk7, but a similar unit on a mk6 that I purchased some time ago had a power rating of about 30 Watts, giving a nominal resistance of about 1.6 ohms (assuming a bus rail of 13.8 Volts. and also assuming that the connection point for the series resistors is half the rail voltage). It will be difficult to measure this resistance with a standard multi meter, but this doesn't matter as these types of elements seldom short-out, they mostly go open circuit
cheers
Don

PS even though I am convinced that G345 is a NTC device , the nature of your fault makes more sense if G345 had a Positive Temperature Coefficient. If the sender was PTC, an open circuit in any of the connectors would mimic a high temperature/occupant safety situation which is consistent with the fault message. Not sure - perhaps those brilliant vehicle engineers at VW have included a separate safety fault for NTC device because an open circuit means that no monitoring of temperature is possible - can someone here advise?

Thank you Don,

As I mentioned the dealer changed already all the heater seat components a couple of months ago but the code is still present, past week I complained about it and I was told that if the heater works there is nothing that they could do about it, it seems to be ''normal'' on MQB.
What bugs me the most is that this fault code is found in a lot of MK7 Golf's, I even saw someone complaining about the code and his car is not even equipped with heated seats, check below.

Thank you

Hi Thinkblue, Were you able to solve the problem of heated seat code? I am having same problem on my brandnew 2015 golf TDi.Same "Safety Shut-Off due to Occupant Detection code."

Is there a real symptom in the seat heater from this code? This is most likely caused by a software glitch in DA 09. Why did the dealer start to fix it?

When i scanned with ODIS,it threw this code and ODIS generated a test plan saying to check heater, temp sensor etc etc and suggested to replace the components.Dealer must have followed the ODIS test plan too.

That's why i am gathering info and don't want to take it to the dealer.
