Made a stupid mistake because I was in a hurry and when I had a dead battery I used my battery booster to jump my 2012 GTI. Unfortunately for me I didn't pay close enough attention to the polarity and had reversed the leads to the battery which has induced what seems to be multiple abstract failures within my baby.

So far, I have verified that all fuses (in cabin & engine compartment) are good and the battery (which was dead at the time) has been replaced with a brand new one. The relays inside the engine compartment fuse box are also good (check operation and resistance).

Symptoms:
Put key in and turn to ACC, standard operation, lights on dash come on, flash, etc. as usual. When turning to key to crank there is no difference from ACC. In other words the car does not attempt to turn over. It appears to do nothing at all. I have checked the headlights' intensity (as well as the dome lights) when performing this as there is no dimming taking place which leads me to believe that wiring is good.

All that being said, I am a new VCDS user (with a small bit of experience previously) but an avid VW fan. I have chipped my previous VW and am very familiar/comfortable with tweaking engines for performance. I am a web developer so I am also familiar with coding and programming logic and I was an Electronics Technician in the Navy so I have a very good understanding of technical jargon.

Below are my results from my autoscan. I certainly appreciate anyone's time in advance that can point me in the direction that I need to go regarding my next steps as far as deciphering these results and proceeding with the repair. Thank you guys for taking the time to read this.

is you battery dead from a short draining your battery?

if u have a intelligent charger, it wont do any damage! hopefully you do.

did u clear the faults after you installed new battery? did you do TBA?

if after clearing faults you still have fuel pump relay fault . start there. when u turn on key do u hear a click from fuel pump relay? double check fuse is good?
01259 - Fuel Pump Relay (J17)
009 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent

if nothing else. test your starter.

Hey Welder thanks for responding so quickly, I definitely appreciate it.

The battery booster than I used is the Schumacher XP2260 and I haven't checked whether or not it has that capability yet. I do know that these faults did not occur until after I tried to jump the car as it was working flawlessly prior to the battery going bad (which was verified prior to me purchasing the new one). I also own a Schumacher 5212A that I used to quick start the car prior to the booster which led to no better result.

I did not clear any faults after the new battery mainly because I didn't own the VCDS system at that time. Same goes for the TBA. I will clear them, TBA and heck for the FP relay. Thanks for the link on the fuses. I will re-verify them after the faults have cleared and touch base tomorrow after work.

Again I really do thank you for your help and such a speedy reply, it's such a relief.

This rather innocuous part of your Auto-Scan looks worrying. Please try connecting to 01-Engine from the main Select Control Module screen in VCDS. If successful, post the faults you receive. If not - and I'm suspecting - your ECU has been fried...

Didnt notice that ... cross your fingers.

Just to clarify...are all idiot lights inside the cabin turning on, radio, heater/fan, wipers, signals? Did you check *all* the fuses, both inside the cabin and the ones near the battery? Even if the Alt. and/or ECU are bad, the car should still crank, so I wouldn't give up yet. Check voltage at the starter (the thick wire) from the battery.

I have tried numerous times to connect to this red line and it will not connect. It is the only fault that will not go to the next screen. ECU being fried sounds terrible...looks like they run almost a grand :(

Did you check inline fuse strap?
It is located in engine fuse box on side where big red wires connects.Check each one .
I bat it blow few fuses.
Older cars like Mk5 had separate fuses.
Now in New cars is Inline fuse strap, means one piece for all fuses, but it is not to pricey about $30.

I doubt ECU is fried.Anyway you can get Used ECU and I can program it if is that case. But like I said I doubt.
Check what I said above first.

Where are you in TX?

Thanks for the tip. I am in FW so not too far from you it would appear.

I wasn't aware of any other fuses besides the engine & cabin compartment boxes. I will check those as soon as I get home. God I hope that is all it is. I would think that there would be some kind of protection like that in a car system of today's time.

All:

I am currently looking into everyone's suggestions. I took a half day off of work in order to get some time to do so. There is a new symptom that I'd like to report.

When I turn on the car (all symptoms normal with the exception of a louder alarm - I assume it is related with the current faulty condition) there is a constant, repetitive and expeditious clicking coming from the device attached to the very front-top of the engine.

Relays ......Terminals 15 30 and 75..........?

Jack, I checked out Terminal 30 on the fuse box in the engine bay and is was good (physically and resistance wise). There was only one other relay on that fuse box so I checked it as well and it too was good.

According to this diagram I am reading (see image below) it appears that there is a set of relays behind the dash underneath the steering wheel. This is something I just stumbled upon and have not checked yet. Would this be the Terminals 30 & 15 you are referring to?

Just a status update...

I found the "in-line" fuse which is the plate fuse that Jetta97 was speaking about. I personally have never seen one like this before so I had skipped right over it. I checked it out and it is good. Check images below. I also checked the terminal board and verified the continuity of the fuse from each cable to the other side of the board, across the screw on the smaller plate (again, see image).

I have also attached two images showcasing the object that was expeditiously clicking when I had a full charge. I am guessing it may be a MAF or something as there is a 2.5-3" hose connected to the bottom of it.

Again I thank you all for your advice and look forward to your continued assistance.

You need to put that inline fuse back and You need to check do you get 12V on each cable not continuity.
You need to have 12V on all of them all the time.
I never said to remove it, I said check voltage.

I see you played fuse box but I also see you didn't touch that ground strap on body.........

Check ground points and trace the terminal relays + ignition switch with tone generator to BCM and inspect the inside of the BCM for burn down visually.

Hmm, I really doubt that the ECU is the problem. How can you then explain a no crank ? Have NOT looked at the wiring diagram for this car, but on most of the cars I have been looking into, the circuit for the starter motor is completely independent of the ECU. I would more closely look at the ignition switch. Get a WD and start measuring. And how do you check the relay's ? Do you put power to them and really check that they do their job (closes the correct terminals) ? Or do you just ohm them ?

Does EVERYTHING else works ? (wipers, seat heating, turn signals, headlights etc). If you send me the VIN and a picture of the service tag (with engine code, gear code etc etc) I can look at the wiring diagram (IF I have it since you are in the US and I am in europe) and give you some hints.

Edit: I now see that this car is 2012. Then you guys are probably correct, the steering coloum electronics controls the starter motor togetheter with the ECU. Somehow I was thinking that this car was made shortly before 2000. I would then check that the ECU have power input on the correct pins.
