8E Audi TDI glow controller

Hi All

Got this one from another garage, The have had glow plug issues and it has a brand new set of glow plugs in. On refitting everything, there is no output to the glow plugs. Fuses ok, they have put another glow control relay in and still no good, auto scan below. I haven't dealt with TDI's at all before so some help would be appreciated. As far as I can tell from wiring diagrams, we have all the correct inputs to the relay, but no signal from the ECU. What conditions need to be met for this to all work?

Battery is weak.............

Also check ECT for reading.......... to see if reporting a glow period needed.

Unplugging ECT should force a glow period.

What is condition of harness from relay output on glows to glows...... and ground points?

Thanks Jack, do you know what temp it needs to be to require a glow period?

I will try disconnecting the ECT to see what happens tomorrow.

We are not getting an output right at the relay, so haven't even checked the wiring yet, but it all does work using output tests on VCDS.

So this morning the coolant temp was at 17.1 C, pre-glow period sat at 0.00s in MVB. No glow. Disconnect the temp sensor, we get pre-glow! After plugging it back in, and starting we got some afterglow, but after stopping it and starting again, no glow pre or after.

Seems a bit strange but maybe it needs to be colder for pre glow? I'm not sure. Will try get time to look at erwin but would appreciate your input. Thanks

I have same issue on Audi A3 1.9 tdi 2004. Maybe bad glow plug relay? Resistance is very high on control circuit.
When I try output test for glow plugs they have 7 V, and when I try with ECT disconnected on glow plugs I have 12 V. Why?

Also I thing maybe engine ecu remapped...
