How to correlate wiring diagram references to part numbers

I am reasonably new to this so maybe I missed this somwhere along the line but is there a way to correlate wiring diagram reference, for example J393, to part numbers?

Well that is a great subject........

In 1987 at Worldwide VW-Audi headquarters .............Back when the etka and repair manual/parts were on microfiche.......... I made this very same request that this be added. Face Palm!

This is what I do..........I take the truth table description in WD and then search this in etka or...........

VCDS is great for this! ...........
Say J393 is a CCM usually so I just go to scan in 0x09 ( J519 ) or 0x46 ( J393 ) in this case, and grab the part # there, then check for supersessions or firmware updates etc etc.........

Plus it never hurts to hit Google and grab images to compare.............​

I know decimal, binary, and hexadecimal but I cannot figure how you got J393 from 0x46? I am looking at the scan of address and still do not see it. Is the some magic in VCDS that I have not yet found that provides the mapping? What is etka?

It will only be seen in VCDS usually in a DTC if related.

Kind of wish Uwe would add the ( J WD possibilities after the part# identifiers or label files in VCDS )

I know the address's in my head from time..........comes from being brought up in the VAG1551 days.

Oh man....... just dated myself with over 30 years experience..........:cry:

There's no "math" that correlates them. In fact there's not even a completely consistent 1:1 correspondence between those J-numbers (DIN component identifiers) and module addresses.

Sorry Uwe I should of said manual entry of those possibilities.

It would be a neat thing to add to an auto-scan log or a caption in VCDS next to the part # in screen.

Say if Diesel these possibilities and if Petrol these or Hybrid..etc etc.

Thanks once again for all of the feedback. It is nice to know I might not be quite as dumb as I was thinking I was/am.

So here is another question I think I know the answer to but I just have to make sure. Is there any place I can find out what the Adaptation channels mean? Some have pops ups but others don't. In particular, the ones I am interested in say something like "..not documented adaptation...". I ask because I was playing around in Module #07 changing some of those adaptation channels that are not documented and now it say s it cannot connect to #46. Fortunately I recorded all of the 256 channels so I can go back and recode. Hopefully #46 will come back online though it seems to be working because everything in the car that was working is continuing to work.

If it is helpful, I am beginning to map all of the adaptation channels for the control modules that are in my 2005 A8L.

Right now the map is a spreadsheet and looks something like (just a partial view because I cannot get everything to align):

I only show 22 of the 128 possible modules 19 of the 256 adaptation channels but you get the idea. I have csv files for the channels with the "X" that have the values for the "X". I just have not yet mapped all of the channels.

Unfortunately, VW/Audi do not document every value that can be read from the car or changed.

Yeah I went from being the punk kid, to the old prick...........

I think I learn everyday, only to find out tomorrow I sometimes learned it wrong.
