Security Access for USA 2016 MK7 Golf R - 17/Instruments

I'm trying to do a tweak provided by DV52 to adjust the curves on the cluster light sensor, which requires Security Access to modify the necessary Adaption channels.

I've tried 20103, which DV52 has provide as working on other MK7 Golf platform cars, but it's not accepted on my car no matter what I try. I've tried it with ignition power only and with engine running, but it always says the code is not accepted.

Here's an AutoScan. Note that the malfunctions listed were caused by me when I disconnected the overhead console to install a homelink module.

HDClown: If you still can't get access to the instrument control module to implement the tweak, perhaps this alternative option HERE might be worth looking-at. I've not tried the alternative tweak, but the author, MRG_AU is quite a gifted colleague, so I'm confident that it will work. Of course, a consequence of implementing the tweak is that the DRLs will be illuminated when the rotary light switch is in the "parker" position, but this is only a minor matter - and it's possibly an added advantage (IMO).

EDIT: I've been having a nice chat with two of your compatriots on another forum about this issue. Seems that like you, they are having similar issues in getting 20103 accepted by this control module. Interesting bit is that they also have a 2016 "R" type mk7 of the NAR version and the PN/SW of the module is 5G1 920 858 A -like yours and 5G1 920 758 A. What's so special about this control module of the *** *** *58 A ilk - the "spiffy" cluster lighting perhaps? But why does this normally impact a security code? not sure!

PPS: One of the Chat-ees tried the "alternative" tweak that I identified above. He reported that it lit-up everything inside the cabin EXCEPT the cluster lighting - bummer!

Just to make sure that the lack of access to address 17 module wasn't somehow connected with RT's software (apology to RT for any unintended insinuation), I re-tried 20103 on my car after loading the new 15.7.3 - and it was accepted first time! Got to be something peculiar in the unit installed in the NAR 2016 "R" type mk7, or the newer version module.

Question for anyone who knows - Has it happened in the past that security codes become ineffectual with subsequent releases of control modules?

Yes, the 46-BCM2 module on the Audi A5 changed the SA code from BCM2 2.01 to BCM2 2.1 and subsequent versions. There's a recent thread where someone was wanting to unlock the ADP channels to code in their new rear LEDs that I was able to chip-in with a different SA code.

The code is initially accepted, but then going into modify the above adaptation results in the controller requesting security access again. I haven't tried any other adaptation channels, but I will do a little more experimenting...

AIUI some controllers use multiple security access codes, so whilst the code is initially accepted when you try to change a certain adaptation (the one you mention for example... which I have also tried without success) you find you need a different security access code.

For example the ABS has at least 8 valid log in codes, but I have yet to find one to change the ‘Drivers door status’

Would it be possible to have a ‘sticky’ thread with security access codes (and what they let you change)??

Thanks for posting, I saw this on VWVortex as well. Repeating myself on this, but when I tried to change the black ice warning temps, it failed due to the security code.

This was also accepted on my module but won't allow changes to the dimming characteristic curve.
Surely now we know 1 code can't we use VCP to force attempt every combination that has been mentioned before.....
If some one is close who could lend me it I would leave it to its work in the workshop all day with a battery stabilisation unit on it.
It's an option

Sorry all - finding the correct security code for the instrument cluster on MY16 mk7s is proving to be the delicious futility of an impossible task!

But if you think about it Zloybob's contribution is a victory of sorts. The older security code (20103) applied universally to all adaptation channels in the instrument cluster - I believe. But because the code 25327 was accepted by the control module, can we correctly assume that the security code regime for the newer instrument clusters is much like that of the ABS module - where separate security codes are used for individual adaption channels (or a bunch of adaption channels)?
